Peanut Butter Candy

Another recipe revisited

Peanut Butter Candy
(Some call this potato candy)

1 lb. Powdered Sugar
1/2 cup of hot mashed potatoes
Peanut butter

Mix sugar and potatoes together. Then I pour onto a cookie sheet that I had already sprinkled with powdered sugar, so it would not stick. Pat mixture flat. Then spread peanut butter on it and roll up like a jelly roll. Then cut into pieces. This is delicious and easy.

Please keep my Mom in your prayers.  She is in so much pain.  If all the tests on her heart come back good, she will be having surgery in the next few days.  Also would you please remember my sister and her family.  Their little dog ( I think they have had her 17 years) got out of the house and is gone.  She is blind and pitiful.  They are so upset.  I would be too.

While You Are Decorating....

While you are decorating........

I am painting.........

And painting........

Can you believe that this is 1200.00 worth of crown moulding
and baseboard????

O.k. Back to what I am doing while you are decorating.

Painting, staining and polyurethaning!
I can honestly say I have stained and polyurethaned every
bit of the trim that is going in our house with the help of our
daughter & Son in Law, "Big Sis & Lane"!

Kathy's Vegetable Soup

Another recipe, revisited.

This is a very easy soup to make.
I usually triple the recipe and freeze some for later.

1 Large can of Veg-all
1 Large can of tomato sauce
1 can of cream style corn
1 lb. of Ground beef (or deer)
Hot sauce (optional, but very good)
Brown Ground meat and drain.
Add all other ingredients and simmer.
Easy & Delicious!
****************
This recipe was given to me by my friend, Kathy that lost her battle with cancer, but won a home in heaven.  I think of her and her family everytime I fix this soup.

Pray

Trusting in You, Father God, trusting in You. Thank You for Your open invitation to lay it all -- things I understand, things I can't fathom -- at Your feet. Yet You bid me to come: “Cast your cares on the LORD and he will sustain you; he will never let the righteous be shaken” (Psalm 55:22). So much is going on in the world, and in particular the heart-wrenching tragedy in Connecticut. Oh, Lord, hear my prayer . . .

One Week After

One week after we sold our home, we rode by a house on a wooded lot.
We stopped. We looked at the outside. We didn't like what we saw from the car.
So we left.
Then, one day someone told us about a house that they thought we should go look at.
Just so happened it was the very same house!!!
So we made an appt. with our realtor and went to look at it.
We walked up on the porch and saw these doors.
We both looked at each other as if to say we shouldn't have judged it so quickly
without seeing more of it. The doors won't look so drab when I get through with them.
The siding was wood and an ugly green.

Then we saw the back porch.
I hate brick and rock together
BUT
when I saw this porch, I was in love.

And a water pond in the front!
It is full of yucky water now and I am not sure if I will keep it or not.
If I do, I might plant some pretty plants around it.

I have always wanted a rock mailbox!

And I love this ironing board in the wall of the laundry room!
Keep in mind, this house was built in 1968 so this was big time
to have a built in ironing board!  Of course, I will replace the padding and cover.

We also LOVE the front porch.
When we drove up to this house and didn't like it,
we couldn't see this porch.
It had wrought iron rails  on it and we have took them down.
The porch has planters on each side of it.

Love the wooded lot!
Very little mowing!

And I LOVED this too!
Radio, cassette player, cd player, and intercom through the house!
And yes... I know that is not something people put in their houses now
but I LOVE it!
It also has a central vacuum system.

This is a tree at the back porch that I love.
I already have a bird feeder in it.
I had wind chimes but as you can see, they are on the ground,
thanks to the squirrels.
This is another back porch off of the kitchen and laundry room.
It has a gas grill back there but we will probably get a new one.
I haven't got my pictures organized enough to show you the before and after but that will be coming soon. We are hoping that we will be moving around Christmas! That  will be the best Christmas present to each other!!!  Remodeling a house is hard and slow. We are just so thankful we have a good carpenter!
The funny thing is, we have never, ever lived in the city and this house is in the city!
We haven't lived in a subdivision before and this house is in a subdivision!
We've always had land, and now we have a lot!
Our last house was around 3000 square feet and this one is about 1900 square feet!
We didn't think it was a pretty house when we first saw it, but it was the first house we looked at, and we bought it!!!
*****************
We pray this home will be a place
Of serenity and peace,
Somewhere to get away from all
The stress and pressing needs
And that this home will be a refuge
From life’s fast and busy pace,
With every room a reminder of
God’s awesome love and grace.

Our Home Away From Home

Before we sold our home in August, our daughter and son in law, Maranda & Lane
told us that they wanted us to stay with them until we found a house.
They have made us feel so welcome.

They gave us the upstairs. They moved all their things out and made room for
our king size bed and all our personal things so it is almost like being at home.
We have a den and a huge bedroom and a bathroom.
We could get spoiled!

They are our family but I have to tell you that they are so blessed.
They both are in school and work full time.
They love their home life and are best friends.
Thank you is not enough to them for our home away from home!
We are so blessed!

Brunswick Stew

I have posted this recipe before but thought I would revisit it since I made it today.
It is worth revisiting and sharing!
This recipe is out of an old Church cookbook where they hand wrote their recipes.
I treasure this little cookbook from my Church.
It is called "Retirement Center Cookbook".
This recipe is simple to make!
It calls for Ground Chuck but we use deer meat!

I love Crock pots!
Simmer in Crock pot all day!
Add some cornbread and you have a perfect meal for a cold December night!

Catching Up

Most of you know that we sold our home back in August.
I am very far behind on catching my blog up so here goes!
Instead of moving everything, I opened my home to certain close friends and family
and sold the things that I didn't want to move or store!
My Mom kept my sewing cabinet for me!
She also has the piano which was originally hers.
Now my sister gets it for a while.
I loved this screened in porch but didn't know what we are gonna do so I
sold all the furniture to a friend of ours!

Our contract was almost up (18 days more) when our home sold!
Looking forward to telling you about our new journey!
To be continued......

Update on Mom:
She had a good day today. Bless her heart. She has been in so much pain.
I am so happy to know that God will not put on us more than we can handle.
It's so hard to see a loved one hurting and you can't do anything about it.
Please keep her in your prayers.
I love her so much!
