One Week After

One week after we sold our home, we rode by a house on a wooded lot.
We stopped. We looked at the outside. We didn't like what we saw from the car.
So we left.
Then, one day someone told us about a house that they thought we should go look at.
Just so happened it was the very same house!!!
So we made an appt. with our realtor and went to look at it.
We walked up on the porch and saw these doors.
We both looked at each other as if to say we shouldn't have judged it so quickly
without seeing more of it. The doors won't look so drab when I get through with them.
The siding was wood and an ugly green.

Then we saw the back porch.
I hate brick and rock together
BUT
when I saw this porch, I was in love.

And a water pond in the front!
It is full of yucky water now and I am not sure if I will keep it or not.
If I do, I might plant some pretty plants around it.

I have always wanted a rock mailbox!

And I love this ironing board in the wall of the laundry room!
Keep in mind, this house was built in 1968 so this was big time
to have a built in ironing board!  Of course, I will replace the padding and cover.

We also LOVE the front porch.
When we drove up to this house and didn't like it,
we couldn't see this porch.
It had wrought iron rails  on it and we have took them down.
The porch has planters on each side of it.

Love the wooded lot!
Very little mowing!

And I LOVED this too!
Radio, cassette player, cd player, and intercom through the house!
And yes... I know that is not something people put in their houses now
but I LOVE it!
It also has a central vacuum system.

This is a tree at the back porch that I love.
I already have a bird feeder in it.
I had wind chimes but as you can see, they are on the ground,
thanks to the squirrels.
This is another back porch off of the kitchen and laundry room.
It has a gas grill back there but we will probably get a new one.
I haven't got my pictures organized enough to show you the before and after but that will be coming soon. We are hoping that we will be moving around Christmas! That  will be the best Christmas present to each other!!!  Remodeling a house is hard and slow. We are just so thankful we have a good carpenter!
The funny thing is, we have never, ever lived in the city and this house is in the city!
We haven't lived in a subdivision before and this house is in a subdivision!
We've always had land, and now we have a lot!
Our last house was around 3000 square feet and this one is about 1900 square feet!
We didn't think it was a pretty house when we first saw it, but it was the first house we looked at, and we bought it!!!
*****************
We pray this home will be a place
Of serenity and peace,
Somewhere to get away from all
The stress and pressing needs
And that this home will be a refuge
From life’s fast and busy pace,
With every room a reminder of
God’s awesome love and grace.

Good evening Val. I just love those porches and it looks like the lot will be beautiufl once you work your magic on it. And those big double doors would have won my heart right away. Can't you just see them with a new colored dress of beautiful paint and pretty wreaths hung from them? I think stepping outside the box would be so fun. Sounds like this step is a good one for you. I told the mister when he strung COLORED lights out front the weekend, I wanted to move to a subdivision where there was a Home owners Association. They would not have let him strung those lights!! {smile} Can you tell our taste are completely different? Can't wait for you to get in and share pictures with us. Don't do to much. Take care of your hands and arms and the mister's back.
Hugs
Angela

How exciting! Love it so far and can't wait to see what you do with it! The change will be fun. You will get used to the city. When hubby and I got married, I was used to never hearing a car at night go by our house. Now that he lives in the "city" there is traffic going by our house all during the night. It took some getting used to, but now I barely notice it! Have fun girl!

I think the house is great looking. It's the people that make a house a home. I can't wait to see it after you move in.

Hi Val, My brother lived in a house similar to this one in Lawrenceville many years ago and I love it! We went from 6000 sf to 1225 sf so I know it can be done! We are in a subdivision of about 80 houses. I do miss being able to wander around the yard without so many neighbors being able to see me, but we have made some nice friends. You will have so much fun decorating and choosing colors, landscaping, and planning parties on the patio. You will also love the ease of caring for something so much more compact. I wish you all the happiness in the world!
