I wanted to show you some close up
pictures of Vicki's (my BFF)

I think this was a pillow case.....But look at this embroidery!

And look at this!!

 Isn't this beautiful?

This is the cutest smock apron!

And this apron is just darling!
Didn't she do good?
She is just like me, it doesn't take
much to make her heart sing!

Thift Store Or Mom's House?

I found this quilt top at the thrift store. It is all hand done.

I only paid $5.50 for this! Would you do this for 5.50?
I wonder if the person who made it knows that it was put in a thrift store.
I wonder what she was thinking as she worked on this.

I found this picture at the thrift store too.
It has that verse on it that says:
"Thou wilt keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on thee."
How true is that? The frame looks like barn wood.

My sweet Mom has been cleaning out and organizing. (she is neat as a pin). If you have not visited her blog go see what she is up to. She called me the other day and said that she had some things for me. I went to pick them up and I was so excited.
Is this not the cutest picture?

And here is another..............

And another!

Look at these gorgeous pillow cases from Moms house.

And these..............

And these were my favorites!

Cookie cutters from Mom's house! Oh I had so much fun going through all this stuff.
There is more from Moms house that I will show later on. I like thrift stores but I LOVE my Moms stuff!
Mom's stuff is treasures.
Thank you Mom!

A Girl's Got To Do What A Girl's Got To Do

A couple of nights away with my sweet honey helps anything!

This little cafe is one that we always stop at on the way home.
The only thing on this menu that I have ever eaten is the grilled veggie sandwich and soup.

Oh my goodness! I just wish you could taste this!
The picture sure does not do it justice.
It is delicious!
We drove into our driveway as we came home and saw this!
It is the most beautiful color and even though I see it every year at this time it always refreshes me. It is like taking a deep deep breath!

I forgot to tell you that we stopped by one of my favorite thrift stores on our way home from our little getaway. I paid about $1.00 for all of that ribbon and that afghan kit has not even been open. I paid 5.00 for it! I wonder if I can do it!!!

SNIPPETS FROM MY HEART

Do you ever have a blah day? After we came home from our little getaway, I have just been in a blah mood! Wonder if blah is really a word? Anyway, this afternoon it hit me! I have been trying to read my Bible and pray everyday. I had not done that today! So I sat down and read a chapter in Psalms and then knelt down and prayed. Granny has told me over and over that if something interrupted her and the Lord's time together that her day just didn't go well. She had a routine everyday. She would get up, cook her breakfast, clean the kitchen, go to the living room and read her Bible and pray early in the morning. She said that this always made her day go better. One time she told me to kneel when you pray because one day you will not be able to. Daddy always told me that he didn't go to her house until about 8:30 am because that gave her plenty of time to read and pray. I am reading in Psalms. I have been trying to read a chapter or so a day. I am also starting that online Bible study this week so I am very excited about it.

Read & Pray..............A lesson from Granny.

Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein, for the time is at hand.
Revelation 1:3

Thank you all.

Thrift Store Finds & 500 Posts!!

When I saw this I just could not believe it. 1.50?? Wow.
I love what it says. Crosstitch. Do you think I could ever do this.
The year says 1983. Can you imagine doing all this work just for it to end up in a thrift store?
I bought these for my Mom. She has trouble with her wrists so I thought these might help.
I came home and put batteries in it and it works but just on a single layer of fabric.
Anyway, 1.00???? Its worth that!

I bought this for 1.00 to hang in our little hunting cabin!
Did I tell you that my hubby and his hunting buddy Rog loves their wives so much that they want us hunting with them............................I think they just want food when they come in from hunting! Ha!

My sweet hubby found this deal. I could not believe it.
He found the lamp without the shade for $2.50 and then he found the shade for 1.00!!!!
He even found the light bulb that fits it for 19 cents!!!
He did good! He wants to use this in our cabin.

Then I found this for 1.00. I didn't need it,
but I need to have this to remind me of what it says. Boy do I need reminding.
This is so true.
Can I request prayer again for me?
Have you ever had something in your life that you are waiting on the answer and it just seems like it never comes but yet there is nothing you can do about it. I just need strength to get through a trial.
Thank you all.

Well my hubby had the best deal of the day with the lamp until I heard a lady
talking on her cell phone and I heard her talking about 2 quilts that were just donated and how pretty that they were. My ears perked up and I was on the hunt to find these!
Well I found them alright!!! I grabbed them both. They are handmade, hand quilted. This is a twin size vintage quilt in great condition. I have already been offered double what I paid for it. Before I tell you what I paid you have got to see the one below.

Is this not gorgeous? Believe me the pictures do not do them justice. This one looks like a full size quilt. I paid 30.00 each for these!!! When I went to pay for them, the girl said that they had not been out but 5 minutes until I grabbed them. She said that they were meant for me! I think I found the best deal of the day now...........I still do love his lamp though. It will look great in our little cabin. Below is a close up picture of the quilt. I just love it.

Now for my surprise for you all!
I am proud to say that this is my 500th post. I would give anything if I could have all of my memories in this blog printed out just for me so when I am older I could look back on it and remember.
I started this blog because I asked my Mom to blog some of her memories for the family. She said she would if I would. I never ever thought that I would enjoy this journey like I have.
I have met so many sweet friends through this blog. I would not take anything for these friendships. I have many friends in my life but because we all get busy it seems to get in the way of time together as friends. I remember one time some relatives moved up on the hill from us. They used to live about an hour away and we made a point to visit but when they moved close to us--we knew they were there and they knew we were here. It changed. We never saw each other. That is kind of the way it is in real life friendships. We know each other are there but life gets in the way. So blogging has filled that void for me. I never ever thought that there would be so many that would care for me, laugh with me, cry with me, share with me, give to me, listen to me, encourage me, teach me, stand with me, & pray for me. I cannot say thank you enough. So here is my deal. I want to give back so this is how I want to do this. I want to give someone a hug. I want to do a Random Act of Kindness for someone. Don't think that I thought of this myself. I didn't. I saw this and experienced it on Lindas blog! I submitted my sister who had lost her husband last year and Linda is sending her a gift that she made from her heart. So precious. A gift of love.
So here are my rules:
If you know of or have a loved one that has been through a trial and needs a hug or encouragement, please submit their story to me in your comment. I would like to do something for someone that YOU care about. I don't need their names right now. I do need a way to contact you through email. You do not have to have a blog to participate in this but I love my blogging friends. I am not advertising this because I want this to be for my followers, visitors, commenters. If you have blessed Granny by purchasing a quilt and have only contacted me through email you are also eligible to submit a friend or loved one. I will be picking 3 people to do a random act of kindness for(if we have enough entries. I have no time limit on when this will be done because I am very slow. The gift may be bought or made by me. I just want to bless YOU through blessing someone you care about. This post will close on Monday. I will announce the winners sometime next week. I am going to ask my 3 daughters to look at the stories and pick 3 people for us to bless. Then when the gifts are sent out I will contact you and post about them here on my blog.
This is my way of saying thank you all for your friendship.

Should I Or Shouldn't I?

Howdy Doody? Do you remember him?
This is a lamp and it works!
Yes, I went to the thrift store again today!
I think I am hooked. Now I know what you are thinking.
Was Howdy Doody calling my name? Did she feel the love? No, but he did make me smile.
Then I remembered ebay. I don't know if I will make any money on it but I will try.
Thats the risk you take with ebay. I paid 1.99 for him.
As I was leaving the thrift store I looked on the sidewalk and saw these fireplace accessories.
These are not cheap made. They are cast iron and very heavy. I think they look great, don't you? I paid 6.99 for these.
This is Fabric ribbon from Hallmark. They had a sale tag that said 1.49 from the store.
They were marked 49 cents with half off at the thrift store so I jumped on these.

Pillow stuffing? Annie Dolls?
Yes
They had 99 cents on it with half off!

Can you see this? It is about 3 or 4 feet long.
I am not sure what it is.
I am guessing a plate holder. I really don't know, do you?
Yes, I did feel the love! I paid 2.99!!!

I could not believe it when I saw this. It is a Singer Buttonhole attachment that looks in great condition. It even has the book with it. I wonder if it will fit my Singer 401 A!
I paid 3.99 for this. I think I did good.

Now the question is SHOULD I OR SHOULDN'T I?
(if you didn't read my last post you will not understand this)
There are 3 more packages of Toilet Seat covers at the thrift store.
I already have 500 and if I buy 3 more packs of 250 each that will make me 1,250 toilet seat covers. I would never ever have to worry at hotels again for the rest of my life!!!!
Well Should I????

You Will Never Believe What I Found

First of all I wanted to show you how cold it is here.
It suppose to be 15 degrees here tonight again.
We live on the other side of a mountain so it is always a couple of degrees colder over here.
But the pond has been frozen for a few days. It is so pretty. I hope the fishies are warm way down under.
I love the thrift stores. I wish we had more around here.
I found this huge grapevine wreath. It is probably 3 or 4 foot round.
I love it. I think I will hang it on my screened in porch.
I paid 1.99 for it.
This was my best find of the day. I have a Jenn Aire Stove that has a grill.
Well after 13 years of lots of cooking it is looking a little rough. The Grill and griddle parts costs over 300.00. This was new in the box and it is not Jenn Aire Brand but guess what .......
IT FITS! I paid 5.99 for these.
I saw this the other day when I went in the store.
Sometimes things just call your name.
I left there not knowing if I really wanted it or not.
But when I went back in today I heard that same voice calling my name!
And then to beat it all .....it was a red tag which meant half price. It was 9.99 and then half off.
I really heard my name being called then!
So it all came home with me.
I try not to buy things unless I really feel the LOVE.
When I saw this little bowl it reminded me of my husbands Granny.
It is a very small bowl but I knew I had to have it.
It was 49 cents!

Can you believe this....Look what I found.
Now you are probably gonna say.....WHY?
But you have to know me.
I hate to stay in motels and use their toilets.
I disinfect and take all precautions but I just have a thing about that.
When I saw these toilet seat covers for 1.99 each (250 in each pkg.) 500 total- Do you think I should go get more? I thought this is a small price to pay to feel clean and safe.
Some days I go to the thrift stores and may not find a thing but today I spent very little and had a ball. Isn't that what it is all about? You have got to know that I don't shop. (except in grocery stores and thrift stores & yard sales). I hate paying full price for anything so this was so much fun to me. I was all by myself and took my time and looked and looked. Slowing down is one of my New Years Resolutions and I am finding out that I like this slowing down stuff.

Thrift Store Finds

Desk Lamp

A little wooden sewing box.
Dirty, but it will not be when I get through with it.
I paid 1.00 for this! It does have 1 broken leg, but it was just so cute!

I don't know what you call this but I love it. The bowls are removable.
I thought it would be good to put salsa, sour cream, olives, etc. in.
I love it too!

I bought this, not because I needed it or even loved it, but because I have been seeing how everyone is re-doing cutting boards and I want to see if I can do it.

I think I can, I think I can, I think I can.....

This is just a little tea light lamp.

Someone had made this out of little slats of wood
and painted it and had a wire to hang it up. I love it too!!!!!

Look What All I Did Today!

I found this little childs rocking chair at the thrift store.
It was in great condition and I just spruced it up a little.
Check out that cane bottom seat!

I bought this old end table at Salvation Army for $8.00 about a year ago. It has been in the garage. I forgot to take a picture before I started priming it.

Primed and ready to paint

The "little" red table on the left is what I am trying to match this up to.
When I painted the "little" table a while back, I just wasn't happy with it. I wanted it to look more primitive. Then I discovered Briwax through Janene's Blog! Once I got the little one like I wanted, I started on the big one. Look how red it looks compared to the little one. I had to put 3 coats of the red on it. Then after it dried I put the Briwax on it. I love this stuff. Thanks Janene!

This is the finished table.
It matches perfectly.
I love it.

This is the rocking chair that my mother rocked her babies in.
It was so dried out and faded so what do you think I did today?
I used the Briwax on it and then I buffed it with steel wool.

This is the rocker when I finished it.

Who in the world could be bored at home? There is always something to do. I evidently was in the painting mood today. It amazes me how you can just do a little painting or staining and it is just like you have a new piece of furniture. I am so proud of what I got done today. I also touched up some paint in my bedroom. I have been meaning to do that for a long time. Now I am looking around at everything to see what I can spruce up. The rocking chair that my mother gave me is my favorite. I don't know if you can tell but it is almost a walnut color now. It is so pretty. I had a ball doing all of this!
