Work, Work, And No Play?

Sweet Hunter & I work very hard during the week so we can play on the weekends.
We not only do our jobs but we have 6 acres to take care of.    It is getting a little much for us.
But we do love it.  SH said for me to give all of the shrubs a hair cut...not a trim.
Every year at this time we try to cut everything back because it has grown so much.
These Nandinas were huge.

So here I go!

This took me a while so I went and had a lemonade break.

While having my hot flash and drinking my lemonade
I was looking to see if I had cut them back enough.

Before I cut these you could not even tell that there was 4 plants.

What a mess!
I knew it was time to go get the gator to start loading all the stuff on it!

Trim or hair cut?
Hair cut for sure!

Now the Barberrys!  They are looking kind of straggley!
We have about 30 of these.

I sure hope that this is what he wanted since there are not any leaves left!  lol

This is my Japanese Maple Tree.  He told me to chop the top out so it would grow wide and not tall so that is what I did.
I think it looks better.  I forgot to take a before picture but it had tall branches going every where.

I haven't got anything here except 2 of the barberrys right in the front.
The Holly bushes are gonna need a chain saw.  I hate it when they are taller than me!
So I will be saving these for next week.

These 3 bushes were huge before I got a hold of them.
I still am not happy with how big they are.
They will be finished next week too.
When you have to get a big ladder to cut them, they are way too big.
Now keep in mind that we trim our bushes all summer long at least every 2 weeks.

I shaped up the little bushes here at the back but the
tall bushes up above are on the list for next week too.

I worked about 6 hours and just barely touched the surface out there but we have a lot of plants.
Anyone wanna come help next week??? lol

O.K. I have all this mess raked up and carried down to the burn pile.
I think I have done enough this week out here.
Work, work and no play makes for unhappy Gran & Paw Paw!
I love it.
Life is good.

SNIPPETS FROM MY HEART
I have finally got my house decluttered.  It is so nice to come home and even if it needs dusting or mopping it still looks clean.  I worked really really hard on this.  And I have finally achieved it.  While I was working outside on my shrubs this past week I thought of the story of the ant in the Bible.  Have you ever read that?  Proverbs 6 tells about the ant and how they live. It also tells us to consider the ants ways or to learn from them.   I hear people all the time say they wish they didn't have to work but really when you think about it we all have to work at something.   If we didn't work, we would not appreciate the play times that we get.  If we didn't work, we couldn't eat.  I actually know people that don't want to work.  I love to play but there is a satisfaction that I get when I accomplish work.  I found this poem that really made me stop and think.
Consider the ant. Just something my mind was pondering on.
And my mind ponders a lot lately! (lol)
****************************
There's a family that nobody likes to meet!
They live, it is said, on Untidy Street,
In a city named I-Don't-Want-To-Be-Clean,
Where the river called Carelessness runs in between.
Their buttons are off, and their shoes don't shine
I surely would not want this family for mine!
So it would be wisest to keep; YOUR feet
From this city where no one is ever neat.
Always be tidy, whatever you do,
Or people will think this is your family too!

That is a LOT of work Val! But it looks so great! Yes, work is a blessing, it's a gift from God - can you imagine doing nothing all the time? I would lose my mind. Even though I can't do physically what I used to, I still need to keep busy.

Valerie, to save youself some work next season why not just cut the big corner hollies to the ground and dig out the roots..... You have plenty of plant material and the house might look "lighter" as well..... just a thought

Seeing all that work you did made me tired. ;) It looks great now though and was well worth it.

I think you are doing a great job with all those bushes! I know it's hard work, too.

I'm jealous of all of your outside work right now. Still winding up wedding stuff. I use the story of the ant when speaking with my children, and myself at times.

I love the type of work that when it is done you actually can see great accomplishment (yard, painting. It is just the everyday things...dusting, vacuming, etc that I dread. I know those must be done, but, blahhhh! Proverbs is a book full of great wisdom. I love that book! Blessings to you! Keep up the good work!
