More Sparta Hilton Fun

There is nothing like a wood fire.
 The smell.
The heat.
And of course the mess!
But it is so worth it.

The right time for a fire outside is anytime this time of year!!!

Of course having a wood fire is a lot of work for the "Sweet Hunter".
But he loves it too. I can tell.

He knows there is always a good breakfast waiting on him.
Bacon.

Pancakes.

There is just something about the Sparta Hilton that makes us cook a lot.

Hunting works up an appetite.  Yummy!

This is what I look like while sitting in my blind.
Now if you were a deer would you see me?
I look camouflaged pretty good don't you think?

One day I got to thinking about hunting.
I thought when I sit in my blind that is more like waiting, not hunting.
So I took my gun and my back pack and went walking and looking.
I didn't see a deer but I found these mushrooms.
I thought they were so pretty.

I also found this shooting house that former hunters had built.
We actually knew it was here but we didn't think it was in this good of shape.
I climbed up in it and tore the rotten roof off of it and cleaned it up.
I feel very safe up there.

It is as high up as the ladder stands that "Sweet Hunter" sits in but I could climb up in here
because the ladder is slanted.  I tried to climb a ladder stand and I just could not do it.

I believe this shooting house is made just for me.
It has a shelf for all of my goodies built right in.
My SIL Lane is going to put a roof back on it for me.
I also have got to find a good stool to sit on too.
I claimed this as my own!!!

Look real close at this picture.
This is off of my trail camera.
A fox.

Looky Looky Looky!!!

And a little one!

But look at this!  I might change from a deer hunter to a bob cat hunter!
Oh I guarantee you that if I saw this coming at me I would shoot him.
A good warm fire, good food, hunting, movies, rest...
what more do you need?

Wow....that is a lot of wildlife!!!! I'd be running from that bobcat. After seeing what the cougar did to our dog, I would not want to run into one of those things at night.

Ya'll cook a lot because you are so busy running all over the place and climbing deer stands....that bob cat would have put me right back in the Sparta Kitchen!

I've never seen a bob cat and now you have seen two that I know of. Wow. Nothing better than a good smelling fire on a cold day and your food always makes me so hungry. The SH is just wonderful for you all.

Sounds like you've found the perfect place to spend the winter..am I wrong or does your Bobcat have a tail?
We enjoyed our time in the GA mountains but we didn't see any wildlife.

You are so very BRAVE, Val. That bobcat would have me running to the Hilton and hiding under the bed covers!!!!!! They say we have them around here, too, but we have never seen one. But we have heard them at night. One thing I wanted to ask you.....what about snakes? I really don't like them.

The pancakes and the bacon look so scrumptious!!!!!!! When we had our camps in the Adirondacks ..well, there was nothing like a great breakfast. Yummy!

Sounds like you have a wonderful son-in-law. Speaking of puttin on a roof?.... Our son-in- law just helped hubby with the garage roof. It's nice to have help around that can do everything!

Been thinking of you...

If I was a deer I wouldn't have to see you - I could probably smell you - the human you - unless you wear your deer stink.....

I love that little woodstove at Sparta Hilton. Neither of us snacks between meals but when we used to camp I swear we'd eat all the time. I don't think I could sit in a deer blind long enough to get a deer.

Oh...I"m not brave enough to be out there with those critters. I'd be in the house reading and cooking and sewing!!!

I can't believe you actually saw a bobcat or fox or whatever it was.
:-) Wow you are definitely Wife of the Year. Your hubby better appreciate you for going hunting with him, sitting in that blind for hours and making delicious meals for both of you. Jack of all trades, valerie, that's what you are. More power to you! :-)

I too love a wood fire - I really don't like not having a fireplace in this house! Val, it's all that fresh air that makes you hungry.

Your cammo looks like a burqa. I don't think I spelled that right, but you know, what Muslim women wear.

Lovely new stand you have - I could even climb that ladder, lol! Does it come with a space heater? *G*

You finally caught a deer on your trail cam! Yay! Don't like the bobcat though - one scared my boys out of a tent up north, they ended up in the house with us girls, lol. I was coming home tonight, on a main road, when I saw a couple of cars stopped in the middle of the busy road - there was a doe lying between them, dying. So sad. I wish, instead of standing around, they could have killed her quickly and taken the meat to a homeless shelter.

Mmmmm...a lovely bit of peace here...it was the fire that attracted me (our boiler not working, and a foot of snow outside :-) ), but I stayed to see the wildlife...nice!

Wishing you and yours peace, harmony and happiness x

Your Sparka is so relaxing, the stove, food look so good, but the hunting part is not for me. The hunter stand is pretty neat and we have bobcat in our area, and the deers eat in our hay field behind our house, and have penty of wild turkey they eat from the bird feeder.I love watching them. Well you have a great day and take care as for me I don't have ant little grands today so i will be out side doing my Christmas decoration!

Remembering the little girl you were when you were home growing up in our household, I would NEVER have thought my little Beth (Valerie) could do this! You are amazing, and I just never get over the surprise I have at your life, and the things you do! Sewing, quilting, embroidery, being a Mom and Grandmother, HUNTING, and not being afraid? Seems like you have really grown beyond all that I could imagine! Way to go my first child! You are amazing!
Love,
MOM

I don't think that was a fox, it looks more like a coyote to me!! Those cameras are so cool, wish I had one! :0) We are seeing lots of deer by our pond, but we won't shoot them. They feel safe at our property, as they should...we'd never shoot bambi...LOL
