Chicken Scratch & Special Gifts

Have you heard of "Chicken Scratch"?
My best friend Vicki told me about a friend of hers
that does this and makes quilts out of them.
She was so intrigued that she wanted to try it.
This is Vicki's first attempt at Chicken Scratch.
I think it looks like she's a pro!
Oh my goodness!
It is beautiful.
She told me that the pictures do not do it justice.
I am in love with it.
I had never heard of it.
I even looked it up and couldn't find anything on it until Vicki
told me that it is sometimes called Amish embroidery.
She said that she has had so much fun doing this.
And guess what ? Vicki is gonna teach me how!
I am so excited.
I had to show you all of my surprise gifts that I got in the mail!
Becky is a great blogging friend and makes beautiful cards.
I had told her that I loved them and wanted to learn how to make them.
So she sent me a starter kit.
I have tags, ribbons, paper and lots more goodies.
I am gonna have a lot of fun with this!

She sent me examples of how she makes cards from tags!
Aren't they the cutest?
And she sent me a bonus!
She crocheted me a dish cloth.
She knows how I love them!
Thank you so much Becky!!

Hi Val...I have heard of "chicken scatch" before. My Grandma did it but I was too young to pay attention. Gosh, Vicki's star is so pretty. Looks like lots of fun! I used to love to do things with a needle in my hand. Of all the things I have done, I think needlework is the best.

Glad you received some special gifts. Take care -

I did chicken scratch when I was younger bride and mom- about 1984 or so I did a running horse on dark blue checks and it hung over our couch for so a long time.

If I remember right, chicken scratch is not hard and a stress-free kind of stitching. have fun learning.

Val, I have heard of chicken scratch but never tried it. Looks hard, but it is so pretty and delicate. The cards are so cute. Such a special friend to share with you. You are going to be so busy, but learning something new is so rewarding isn't it? Have a good evening

Aw, Val! I'm thankful for your friendship, too! And I want to see some tags you make now!

I left this on a comment on facebook, but I have several vintage aprons in my collection that have chicken scratch embroidery on them. It's very pretty!

I'm so glad you liked the goodies! Becky

Just another reason I like chicken...no kidding the chicken scratch is so pretty...I have seen something similar done on pillow cases and aprons...but never for a quilt.

Have fun in learning to make tags/cards.

I had heard of chicken scratch embroidery when I was a kid. If I recall correctly, my aunt used to do that,

I love those cards. One more thing I need to learn how to make. :)

Vicki did a fabulous job, one would never know she'd never done the "chicken scratch" design before! I have no doubt that you will learn quite fast how to do it yourself:-)

Aren't blogging friends just the best? I love the goodies that Becky sent you and can't wait to see the cards you make!! xoxo
