Friday Night Sew In, OPAM, Fridays Fave Five, Sew & Tell

To start with, these projects were not all done on Friday night. They are all works in progress.

I actually had to work until about 8:30 that night and was tempted to come home and rest but I knew everyone was sewing and I sure wanted to be part of the party!

This is the block of the month from Lavender Lime Quilt store. This is the Feb. block.

Thank you to you all:

Bobbi and Heidi for hosting the Friday Night Sew Ins!

This shows you my January & Feb. block.

Does this look familiar? If you remember I made one like this for someone a few weeks ago. This shows it all basted with safety pins and ready for the machine.

I had a request to make another one so I wanted to change it up a little bit. This is for Martha!
We had emailed and she wanted a baby quilt and I wanted a scarf so we decided to do our own little swap. If you go to her blog, scroll down and you can see the scarf that she is knitting me. I am so very excited.

This is a picture showing me sewing the binding on. On the other baby quilt I made I had blue and white stars for the binding and a solid blue for the backing.

This shows the front of the quilt with the binding completely finished.

This is my very very favorite part! The backing! Isn't it cute?

I told Martha that I am not a pro but I sure had fun doing this one for her.
I will try to get this mailed this week. I am hoping there is gonna be a little surprise along with the quilt. I hope you like it Martha!
***********

Many of you know that I have wanted to learn embroidery for a while now.
I have watched videos, read books, looked at blogs and just couldn't get it.
Two of my friends, Allie and Julie have really been encouraging me to learn this craft.
After seeing some beautiful work that Allie did the other day, I just emailed and asked her how did she learn all of it. She told me and then she suggested to go and find a childrens embroidery book. She said that they write those so you can understand it because they are not assuming that you know everything. I looked and looked and could not find one but as I was looking.................I found this!!!

It has my name on it! This is simply explained and I am so excited. It only teaches you 2 stitches - the back stitch and the satin stitch. I have a lot to learn but I have enjoyed what little I have done on this. I think this is my beginning! I sure can see why this is addicting.

Fridays Fave Five is hosted by Susanne!
Thank you Susanne for making us think of the little things.
Five Favorite Things this week:
1. A spring like day today. It was wonderful.
2. A Spend the night party with our Grands last night!
3. A quilt made "just for me" by Granny.
4. My blogging friends who I feel as if I know personally.
You all will never ever know what you mean to me.
Seriously.
5. Thankful to finally learn 2 stitches in embroidery! Its a start.

Friday Night Sew In, OPAM, Sew & Tell Fridays, Fridays Fave Five & an Award!

Better Late than never.
This picture is showing how I laid it out before sewing.
This post will cover a lot of groups that I have joined.

Sew and Tell Friday hosted by::Amylouwho!
OPAM 2010 hosted by::Peg
My Mom gave me this Moda Jelly roll several months ago and I have not done anything with it until now. It is called Wild Serenade. This is my colors. I love it.
Don't laugh at my free motion quilting. This is only my second try.
But I am determined. Practice makes perfect.....Isn't that what they say? Lets hope so.

I took several of the strips in the jelly roll to make my binding.
My Sweet Mom is my encourager, along with all of you bloggers! (By the way, she is having a give away). She challenged me to spend 30 minutes a day in my sewing room and it really does work. That is the way I clean house too. Several years ago my best friend Vicki shared Flylady with me and it sure does make life easier! I went from sewing to cleaning house!!! Wow. Crazy me (as Granny says).

And here it is..........A quilted table runner!
I think it is pretty if I do say so myself!!!

I am just a beginner so don't look close up but I am proud of it.

Thank you to everyone for your motivation and encouragement!

Granny Is Part Of My Fridays Fave Five

Fridays Fave Five is hosted by Susanne!

The purpose of this FFF is to have an attitude of Gratitude

for the week we just came through and to name 5 of your favorite things this week.

1. My Sweet Granny

I walked in her livingroom and she didn't hear me come in.

Looks like she is pondering what to do next on this quilt.

When she realized that I was there she told me to go into the quilt room and get the latest quilt out. She actually had 2 but I have already sold one locally. This is one of the best quilts that I have ever saw Granny do. It is a scrappy quilt! It is so pretty. It has a pink backing. This quilt will be on my sidebar for sale if anyone is interested. UPDATE: Quilt is sold.

Here she is showing me the next quilt that she already has started.
I am so thankful for my little 96 year old Quilting Granny.
I love her so much.

2. My Design Wall
I worked hard in my sewing room this week and I was determined to get my design wall up so I can see what I am working on. I am so thankful that it is up and looks great if I do say so myself.

3. Snow Days
We only got a dusting but the temps were so cold that my frozen pond was covered in white before the snow even hit the ground. I love snow as long as I have electricity and Coke!

4. The innocence of a child....my grandson.
Brother asked, "Granny, Can I sew too?"
I said, "Of course you can baby."

5. A Pan of Hot Corn Bread
Yummy!

Friday's Fave Five & Cook & Tell Friday

Fridays Fave Five is hosted by Susanne!
Go visit her blog to learn more. The point of this is to list five things that I am thankful for from this past week.
I am thankful for:
1. The little things my sweet honey does to make me feel special.
2. Getting to spend Thanksgiving with my children & my son in law's & grandchildren, my Mother, my Dad, my sisters & their families, & my 96 year old Granny!
3. Getting to take some time to sew.
4. Watching my daughter hand a homeless person a gift from her heart.
5. My home.
This "Cook & Tell" is hosted by amylouwho's blog! Every Friday she host a Friday Show & Tell. This week it can be something we cooked. So here goes:

Mushroom Casserole
4 tblsp. butter
2 tsps. flour
Make a rue with this until it is an amber color.
Add onions & garlic - according to how much you like.
Sautee together.
Add heavy cream (approx. 2 cups)
Add 2 cups of sliced mushrooms
Sprinkle with cayenne pepper and garlic powder to taste.
Add 1 cup of chopped broccoil (thawed or frozen)
Add 1 quart of chicken broth and cook until all is heated through.
Add 1 cup of shredded Monterey Jack cheese and 1 cup of shredded Cheddar Cheese
Heat until cheeses are melted.
Turn heat off.
Add 2 cups of white rice (precooked and drained)
Transfer into baking dish. Top with shredded cheese. Bake 425 degrees for 20 minutes.
This is so delicious and so easy. I saw this on a cooking show and could not wait until I could try it. We loved it. I hope you enjoy!
