"Our Little Hilton"

You know I always have to start "our little hilton" posts with food!
This was our first breakfast this past weekend and it was so good.
Omelette & toast!

We were expecting "Big Sis" & Lane for the
weekend so I started getting the bed ready for them.
This quilt is one that Granny made.

Then on top of that I added this quilt.
I bought it at a thrift store and it is "Big Sis's"
favorite quilt!

Then I added the chenille bedspread that my MIL bought for me.
I added the pillow that my Mom gave me and the neck pillow that I made.
My Daddy made the quilt on the end of the bed.
Now the bed is all ready for "the honeymooners"!

But guess what?
We are having more guests!
"The honeymooners" are bringing 2 of our Grands!
So I started making Granny's bed.
This is one of the last quilts that granny made.
See her famous border on it?
A sweet blogger sent Granny this USA fabric and she loved it!

Now I have the grand children's bed all made up for them.
"Sweet Teen" made that pillow and the quilt at the bottom
was a quilt that granny made a long time ago.
Granny had a twin bed that was never used. When Granny went to Heaven the family asked me if I wanted this quilt.  I had never seen it before and I treasure it.
When the kids came they knew which bed was theirs!!!
They loved Granny.

Before they all came I had been working on more hexies!!!

Now there are 7 "Hilton Hexies!"

"Big Sis & "Angel"!!

Lane practicing shooting his bow!

And here is our little hunter...."Brother" with his Paw Paw
ready to go hunting!!!

My Grandchildren have never been to "Our Little Hilton" before.
I loved having them there!
We had so much fun!

TODAY I AM THANKFUL FOR......making sweet memories!

Our Little Hilton

The "honeymooners" went with us this past weekend to "our little hilton"!

I brought some home grown tomatoes and peppers & lettuce from my garden!

Add some fried potatoes!!!

And the best hamburger ever!!!

The guys were busy building a shooting house!
Every time Lane comes "Sweet hunter" puts him to work!
Maybe that is why our other son in laws don't come visit! lol

I actually think they loved being out there
but they sure were working hard in that heat.

Me & "Big Sis" were in the cabin.
You won't see any pictures of us.
We kept our pajamas on the whole weekend!
It was great!
She studied and I crocheted.

I went out to check on the guys when I saw this web and spider!
YUK!

The guys did take a little break to shoot their guns!

They worked so hard that they needed to take a break.

Well they worked until I called them in for breakfast!
Deer Sausage
Scrambled eggs
Gravy & biscuits
Sliced tomatoes

And Sat. night we took a break and went to eat at the only restaurant around.
It's a seafood restaurant and is so good!
They serve cheese grits with sweet pickles!
Believe it or not, it is delicious!

Well they didn't get to finish it but it is almost there.
One more trip and they should have it done.
"Sweet hunter" could not have done it without Lane.
Thanks Lane for being a great son in law!

TODAY I AM THANKFUL FOR........."our little Hilton"!

Welcome Home

Remember a couple of posts back when I showed you all the
flowers blooming when we came home from
"Our Little Hilton"(aka hunting cabin)?

Well, when we got home we were blessed with a very clean house too!

"The Honeymooners"(daughter & SIL) came and cleaned our house!

A very clean dust free dining room table.....

This picture is a little dark.
This room is the room we call the "nobody's room".
I guess you can guess why it is called that.
Nobody goes in there!
When we had a house full of kids they used that room
to sit with their boyfriends so they wouldn't have to be in
the "big room" with us.
I guess you can tell that we name our rooms.

I love my guest bathroom!
I really love it when it is sparkling clean!

We have talked about downsizing one day.
If we do, this whirlpool tub will have to go with me!
Wonder what "sweet hunter" would say about that?
I do LOVE my bathtub.

When we moved here this "thing" was hanging over the fireplace as a mantle.
I hated it when it was up there.
When we took it down it was so beautiful we had to find a place to put it so here it is.

If the kitchen sink is not clean, my house is not clean to me.
That is the first thing that Flylady teaches you to do.

This is my "sweet hunters" office.
He is a perfectionist.
If you borrow an ink pen off his desk...he knows it.
Drives me bonkers sometimes!
Anyway, the "honeymooners"
took everything off his desk to clean it.
I asked them how they knew how to place things
back on the desk when they got through.
"Big Sis" said,
"We know how daddy is so we took pictures
so we would not mess anything up."
Is that not hilarious???

We had a tree fall across our drive during a storm.
"Sweet Hunter" had moved it out of the drive but
when we got home....."Lane" (SIL) had cut it up
for firewood so we could take it to "Our Little Hilton".
*************
Thank you to the "honeymooners" for working so hard to bless us!

Today I am thankful for..............our blessings.

Sparta Hilton Weekend Trip

Why do I always start the Sparta Hilton (hunting cabin) post with food?
This was a part of our second breakfast this weekend.
If you have these, you don't need much of anything else.
But along with the fried potatoes we had tenderloin, gravy and homemade biscuits.
I can honestly say that I truly enjoy myself when I go the Sparta Hilton.
I do whatever I want to do.  This weekend I sewed a binding on a
baby quilt and cooked. (2 of my favorite things.)
The "honeymooners" went with us.
Lane (SIL) and "Sweet Hunter" worked the whole weekend.
Poor Lane. "Sweet Hunter"even had him up on the roof getting pine straw off.
That doesn't look like too much fun.
There they go to put up more tree stands.
While they were out working, me and "Big Sis" were inside
watching movies and "I Love Lucy" shows!
Notice there are no pics of "Big Sis" yet.
Everytime I wanted to take one she would tell me not to either because of
no makeup or pajamas!! She is so cute.
I should have took before pics of my shooting house!
It didn't have a roof and the ladder was shakey.
The guys did a lot of work on  it.  Lane put a tin roof
on the top.  They are gonna get some grass carpet to put in it too.
I told Lane that this shooting house is his too.
He worked so hard on it.
They say this is a great shooting house.
I am not sold on this hunting thing yet but I am gonna give it another year.
If we didn't have the Sparta, I would not be hunting.
I love being able to walk out the back door and hunt.
So far, my favorite thing is to relax, crochet, sew and cook when I am here.
If I am gonna hunt though this is where I want to be.
I cannot climb in one of those tree stands.
I just don't feel safe so if I am gonna hunt this is great for me.
Thank you Lane & Sweet Hunter!
You can use it anytime you want to.
The guys were so tired and sore after all the work they did.
Next time it will be more relaxing and hunting for them.
It is turkey season next.
We have cameras set out everywhere on our land at the Sparta.
We got lots of pics this time.
I just loved this one!
And this one!
I don't like coyotes, foxes or bobcats and we got pics of them all!
See why I want to be either inside the Sparta or up in that tall shooting house!
"Big Sis" finally let me take a picture.
On our way back home I crocheted dish cloths.
So she was happy when I gave her this yellow & white one.
Lane looks pretty tired, doesn't he?
Thanks Lane! Your the bestest!

Snippets From My Heart
We had a wonderful time at the Sparta Hilton.
We didn't even get out and build a fire this time.
We had one in our wood heater inside though.
Its funny. It doesn't take much to keep me and "Big Sis" happy.
I actually wouldn't trade this for any vacation I could go on.
I love it because I get to sleep in my own bed and not a hotel bed.
I love having clothes already there and getting to do nothing if I want to.
This weekend I did a little rearranging.  I am good at that.
I will show pictures next time.
I never have finished the deer quilt for our king size bed.  I hope to have it done next time we go.  Remember it was suppose to be "Sweet Hunters" Christmas present????
March, you say??? Oh well.
Anyway, I just love it there.

Today I am thankful for...........our home away from home.

Sparta Hilton: Simple Things

Remember Granny's bed?  Here is is with a beautiful chenille bedspread on it.
My "Sweet Mother In Law" went to an estate sale and bought this for 5.00.
I love it!

We spent the holidays at the Sparta Hilton and I loved being there.
The first night I made my Mom's special recipe.
Since there were only the 2 of us I split the Spaghetti Casserole in to 2 pans.
I baked one and froze one.

This is my dream bed.  I love it.  It is a king size bed with a pillow top that feels like a cloud and I found it at an estate sale a while back.  You may remember me saying that I would not like buying a used mattress but the lady told me that this one had only been slept on 3 times and then it was in her guest room. She even gave me the original papers where it had just been purchased a few months before.  I paid 150.00 for a 1300.00 mattress & foundations.  It is wonderful.
This is the bed that I am making the deer quilt for. Remember?  The one that my "sweet hunter" asked me to let Granny make so he would see it in his lifetime?  Of course I said that I would do it and didn't ask Granny.  We didn't know then that Granny would be gone.  And of course the quilt is not started yet.  I am shooting for Christmas though!!  We will see.

This is Granny's little twin bed.  I put the quilt that my dad made me on it.
The pillow is one that my granddaughter, "Sweet Teen" made for me.
I love it.

I am so excited about this. We haven't had a microwave at the SH until now.
My Mother actually bought us one at an estate sale.
Then my nephew saw it and he had just bought a new home and he wanted to trade the one that came with his house for that one.  My Mom told him that I would not mind so I got his.  It is old but I love it. Thank you Mom & Matt!!

Now you may ask yourself "why" is she taking pics of ice trays.
The reason is this is the first time that we have had ice that wasn't bought in a bag at the Sparta.
At home we don't think a thing about going to the refrig and pushing a button and getting our ice automatically in our glass.  I love ice trays. Sometimes simple is better.

Now this is a luxury that my "Sweet Hunter" added to the Sparta.
He loves to know the inside and outside temps all the time.
It actually got down pretty cold there this weekend.
The low was 29 so that fire sure did feel good.

Granny's wardrobe is working great for our little closet at the Sparta.
Nails on the wall work great for hanging my robe and his hunting hats.

This is Granny's dresser that goes with her bed.
I didn't realize that the vacuum cleaner cords were showing so please excuse that.
I have 2 kerosene lamps on her little dresser just in case the power goes out but we broke the globes so we have got to replace those.  These kerosene lamps were from  "Sweet Hunter's" grandmother.

Well, look who surprised us by coming to the Sparta Hilton this weekend.
"The honeymooners!"  Big Sis is baking a cake for us.

And Lane is going hunting!!!

I think "Big Sis" feels at home at the Sparta.
She loves to cook.
This is one of her specialty's and is delicious.
It is a caramel cake.  If you would like the recipe click here.

This is our Thanksgiving supper at the Sparta and it was delicious if I say so myself.

Do you like our Thanksgiving china???

I think "Big Sis" is at home here at the Sparta!
Here she is all covered up on Granny's couch sound asleep.
We like this hunting thing!!!

Oh yes, I decorated for Christmas at the Sparta too!!!

I am finding out that we sure don't need all the things that we think we need.
If that is the lesson that I am learning from having the Sparta Hilton, I am getting it.
Simple is good.

We may not get a deer but I can tell you this....we eat well.
Note: "Sweet Hunter" has saw deer, but he is so choosy because he wants the big boy. He has already killed a doe so we have meat in the freezer.
So now he lets them walk if they are not big.  I admire my "sweet hunter" for that.
This hunting thing is harder than you think.

Breakfast at the Sparta Hilton.

We look forward to having many more good times with family and friends at this little hunting cabin. If you are looking for malls, movie theatres, etc.  It is not here. What is here is hunting, rest, & good food & the freedom to do whatever we want, whenever you want to.  There is a little restaurant about 25 miles away but once we get to the Hilton, we don't even want to leave. Sometimes our truck does not move until we have to go home.
This little simple place grows on you.  It is hard to leave once you get there.
Simple.  I think that is what I love about it.  Simple.
