Daddy's Quilts & His New Sewing Cabinet

Daddy has a very small house and he was trying to find a place to store all
of the quilts he is making.  Looks like he found the perfect place.
All of these quilts are for sale along with the ones in the sidebar marked "Daddy's Quilts".
Each quilt is 60.00 plus shipping.

Daddy had to do some rearranging in his house
 to make room for his new sewing cabinet that he bought.
He is even moving pictures around.
This frame is all of Granny.  I made that for him when she left us.
Right behind that little lamp is the framed poem  "Granny's Perfect Quilts" that was written by
Marlene about the quilt she purchased from Granny.  If you haven't read it, go to my sidebar and look for it.  I LOVE it.

My Dad was in the Navy and has been looking for Navy hats.
He found 2. One of them says Navy Veteran on it.
He loves them.  When I was a baby he was in the Navy.
Thanks Dad for your service.

He is so very proud of it! 
He hasn't put his machine in it yet but
he is working on it. 
Then it's back to sewing quilts for Daddy!

Today I am thankful for......
the birds singing outside my window!

Granny Lives On Through My Dad's Quilts

Granny's love of life was because of her family, her Lord and her quilting.
She always told me that nobody else was interested in quilting
and that I needed to get busy so I could pass the love of quilting to my children.

All of Granny's children helped her with anything she needed all the time.
They all were very dedicated to Granny.
You hardly ever went to Granny's
house without someone being there.
Granny was a very independent woman but always loved company.
My Daddy always made sure that Granny
 had plenty of bobbins filled so she would not have to stop quilting.
She used to tell me that he always showed up at the perfect time to roll a quilt. 
She always wondered how he knew when to come.

This is Granny 15 days before she went to Heaven.
Granny was quilting up a storm and loving every minute of it.
I never in my wildest dreams thought that she would be gone so soon.
I wish I had hugged her more.
(tears)
The good thing is that I have hope that I will see her again.

Daddy was just about as proud of Granny's quilts when she finished one as she was.
At the very end of Granny's life my daddy started quilting too.
It made Granny very happy to know that someone besides me was seeing why she loved to quilt.

I never tried to sell one of Granny's quilts.
One day Martha emailed and asked if Granny would consider selling one of her quilts.
That started the snowball.  Then Granny sold another and another 
and so on and so on thanks to blogger's.
Granny had this stack of quilts sitting here for years until this happened. 
Family members would come at Christmas and
 buy a few but other than that she didn't sell many. 
The only place she went was to church so she didn't see many people.  
Once we sold a lot of quilts it gave her a zeal to quilt more.  Even though Granny was a healthy woman, this gave her something to get up in the mornings for. I truly believe that she would not  have been here as long as she was if it wasn't for you blogger's.   She started her day with breakfast and then prayer and Bible reading and then she was at the sewing machine until lunch. Then back at the sewing machine until supper time. Then Granny went to bed around 7 every night. The only days that she didn't quilt was Friday when it was "wash day" and then Sunday because it was the "Lords day."
 At the end of her life she did start quilting on "wash day."  She couldn't help herself.
The one fear that Granny had was that she would leave this world with a quilt half finished. 
 I am proud to say that she finished her last quilt before she left us.
She doesn't have to worry about that anymore.

Fast Forward till today:

My Daddy has been calling me to come over and see his quilts
 that he has been working on, so today I went to see him.
It took him months before he would even look at a sewing machine after Granny passed away.
Then gradually he started quilting again.  Here he is showing me one that he  made.
I know that Granny is smiling.

I would not have ever dreamed that my daddy
 would love quilting like Granny did but he does.

He was explaining to me that his quilts are not
 perfect and that he just learned from watching Granny.
I told him that there is not a perfect quilt. 
 He does do his binding different than Granny but it is "his" way.

It makes me so proud to see my Daddy so happy and talking about all of his quilts.
Each one has a story.  I asked him if he would
consider selling them because I have had several people ask
about Granny's quilts. He said yes. This is the closest thing to Granny's quilts that we have left.   Daddy is almost 76 years old and is finally happy after losing his Mother.
 I know that he misses her so bad.
Who would have guessed that making Granny quilts would do it?
I bet Granny would have guessed.  She knew all about the love of quilting.
I called my children and told them that they need to get one.

When Granny passed away the family felt like she
would want Daddy to have her sewing machine. 
He takes great pride in sewing on her machine.

Here are 4 of Daddy's quilts.  He really did a good job.
I asked him what he wanted for the quilts in case someone is interested.
He said he would like to get 60.00 dollars because the
cotton batting has went up in price since he used to buy it for Granny.
Granny's quilts were 50.00 and that was a deal.  I have to tell you that
Daddy's quilts are a deal too.  Perfect? No. 
But if you would like a quilt that is as close to Granny's
as they can be, you can get one from her son, my daddy.

Daddy told me that he cannot sit and have idle hands.
Granny told me the same thing about quilting.
They surely could not make money doing this.
It is making something much more than money.
It is making happiness.

I don't think that I have ever shown you this picture.
This is Granny and my Paw Paw in 1980.
They were at my house seeing my newborn baby, Maranda ( Big Sis).
Wasn't Granny pretty?  That would have been 30 years ago.
And look at my Paw Paw.....do you see the resemblance in my dad?
He looks just like him.
Oh and look at that beautiful baby of mine!

These were the stacks of quilts that I saw today on Daddy's couch.
It reminded me of when I first saw Granny's stack of quilts.

Daddy has made 9 quilts so far and has several more tops started. 
They remind me so much of Granny's quilts.
It made Granny happy and it is making my Daddy happy.

He was taught by the best.
I remember right after Granny passed that my daddy told me that he didn't
think he would ever quilt again.  He was just so sad and grieving.
Then he remembered Granny's favorite verse:
I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.
Phillippians 4:13
I know that Granny is smiling down on this blog
even though she didn't understand blog land.
Granny does live on through my Dad's quilts.

A Day At Our House

I am not much on coffee unless I am cold but "Sweet Hunter"
 likes to have it on the weekends before going deer hunting.
On weekdays he goes through the drive thru at McDonalds and gets the senior coffee!
I remember the first time he realized that he could get the "senior" coffee.  The speaker was tore up and he drove to the window and asked them for a cup of coffee.  Usually he paid around 80 cents for it.  The girl handed it to him and said "46 cents please." 
He said "why is it cheaper?"  She said "you asked for a "senior" coffee didn't you?"  He said "I guess I did.  How old do you have to be?"  She said "55."  He called me and asked me how in this world did she know how old he was!!! It was hilarious! 

After "Sweet Hunter" goes deer hunting he usually comes home to a breakfast like this.
Deer Tenderloin
Biscuits and gravy
Cheese eggs
Cooked apples
Is he spoiled or what??? I love it though.

I have been wanting to buy a "WII" for a while. 
 The grands got out of school early the other day so we just went and did it.
"Angel" loved it too even though they have all this at home.  There is just something special about having it at Gran's house.

"Brother" would get so aggravated if he didn't bowl as good as he wanted to.
He decided that we needed to play teams and he wanted to be on my team!!!
He is pretty smart, huh?

"Sweet Teen" even gave up her texting for a while and played with us!

Gran even gets hugs for buying the wii!
It is so much fun.  That made it worth it all!

"Brother" loved being on my team! 
He gave hugs everytime we won!
He said he liked winning.

They made a Gran and a Paw Paw Mii (I think that a Mii is a Wii person).
They got the biggest kick out of making Paw Paw's!
Looks just like him.  Now does he look like a "Senior" Coffee man to you?? (lol)

Then Paw Paw ( better known as "Sweet Hunter") came home
 and got the biggest kick out of that Mii they made for him. 

Our den was a disaster when the grands were here! 
As you can see when it came to the sword fighting....
Brother got serious!  Shirt & shoes had to come off.
He is so funny!

Then my dad came by to show us a quilt top that he made.
I think it is the prettiest one yet.
"Sweet Teen" was showing him pictures in her phone of a baby quilt that she just made.

I am so glad that he is back to quilting again.
It took him a while to get back at it after Granny left us.
Granny would want him too. She always told me that it keeps your mind busy.
Speaking of Granny.......Tomorrow is her birthday!
So there will be a special post just for Granny tomorrow.
I do most of my posts at night so it will probably show up on Monday.
I bet there will be a big birthday party in Heaven tomorrow.
She is Gone but is not forgotten.

My Dad Is Quilting Again And Shares With Sweet Teen

After I took "Sweet Teen" to the dentist the other day we stopped by my Dads.

He wanted to show us what he was up to. Daddy had not done any quilting since Granny passed away. But here he is showing "ST" a quilt top that he made this past weekend.


Here he is showing us another one that he did. I could tell he was proud. I was kind of worried that he might not sew anymore but he is back at it again.

Can you believe this? He sure does take after Granny.

3 quilt tops in one weekend! Wow.


Here he is showing her a dutch doll quilt top that he bought at a yard sale.
I wish they weren't holding it upside down but they were talking and I didn't want to interrupt.
He was showing her that it had a little small tear in it but he thought it could be fixed.

Then he told her that he wanted her to have this quilt top. She was so excited. My "Mom"
is making a quilt something like this. She had shared with "ST" a while back how she was going to decorate her dutch dolls with buttons and ribbons. I knew what "ST" was thinking. Right after she got this from my dad her sewing machine tore up. School is also keeping her pretty busy. Her sewing machine should be fixed this week though and she can get started again.

I was so excited to hear and see that Daddy is quilting again. When he started quilting while Granny was still with us, it gave him such joy. Before we left there I saw this on the back of his couch. It looks like he has some squares already cut for another quilt top. Granny would be proud that he is sewing again.

I just want you to look at this beautiful granddaughter of mine.

She has been wanting to get a little business going. When she heard that I had ordered a starter kit from Mary Kay she was so interested. I told her all about my friend Cindy coming over and giving me a facial and how wonderful it was. Cindy did not come to sell me Mary Kay. I am the one that approached her. I needed some skin care and make up so I asked a lot of questions about it. So before she left I wanted to place an order with her. When she saw that my total was 85.00
she shared with me a way that I could get a starter kit with everything I was wanting plus much much more and I would qualify to become a consultant. All for 100.00! You would not believe what all I got! Well I was telling "ST" that I would not give parties but I would sell online. I would not mind giving facials though. Before Cindy gave me one I had called several spas in town and never could get an appt. with anyone! I loved my facial!!

Well, my package came in and guess who has it......"Sweet Teen"!!!

She called me today and said it was wonderful.

She is also going to be selling it. She loves the make up.

I am so excited for her. Now I have got to order me another kit!!!!

She is hilarious!! I didn't even get to see what was in it! It was so heavy though.

But you know what? I can already say that I have signed up someone to sell and I wasn't even trying! Today Granny Is Smiling

I truly believe that Granny was smiling down on today.
I know that you have all saw this picture many times but I just love the look on her face in this picture. I still feel the love from her.
This was about 2 years ago. I want you to notice "Sweet Teen".
I wonder if she would have thought that today she would be making quilts.
She didn't seem interested back then but she is so excited about sewing now.
Here Granny is showing me some of her quilts and "Sweet Teen" is just reading her book.
Even "Brother" is working one of Granny's word puzzle books. And "Angel" is taking pictures of it all. That was then.


And this was today.
I went to pick the kids up so I could spend some time with them before school starts next week.
Just look at those sweet faces!
We took them out to eat and then my Dad wanted me to bring them to his house.


He told "Sweet Teen" & "Angel" that he had something for them.
We started in the trunk of his car with some sheets for the back of quilts.
Even "Brother" acted excited!

Then he took them in the house and he had got some of Granny's things together to give them.
Most of the things were gifts from you bloggers. The little Singer Tin case he is showing them there was given to Granny from my best friend Vicki. My Dad wanted "Sweet Teen" to have it.
She just kept saying "Thank you, Thank you."

Here he is showing her the 2 sewing machine covers that bloggers made for Granny.
He told her that she could pick one and he would keep one.
He also gave her some of the squares that some of the bloggers had cut for Granny that she never got to use. I wanted to raise my hand and say...."What about me?" But honestly we all are so proud of "Sweet Teen" and now even "Angel" is learning to sew. I think my dad which is their Great Grandfather knew that "Sweet Teen" would make something out of these things.

Daddy hasn't sewn since Granny has been gone but this past weekend he did start cutting some fabric. So I think he is about ready to start. I was glad to hear that. For a long time I was the only quilter in Granny's family and then Daddy started sewing. Granny was so proud of him. One time she kiddingly told me that maybe it would keep him busy! lol

"Brother" even acted interested in all this sewing stuff!
"Sweet Teen" & "Angel" was so excited and could not wait to get to my house to get it all out.
I could not help but think of Granny and how she had to be looking down on us and smiling. I miss her so much but she is so much alive in our family. I really don't think when "Sweet Teen" was reading that book sitting on Granny's couch, while me and Granny were talking quilting............I really don't think she ever knew she would be following in Granny's footsteps. I think Granny is so happy to know that "ST" is getting some of her fabric and gifts.

I have to remind you about Granny's verse that I gave her one day when she was aggravated at her sewing machine and said she didn't have faith. She told me over and over how she had that verse in her heart forever.

I also have to tell you that "Sweet Teen" is my oldest grandchild. Since the day that she could understand what I was saying I have taught her that same Bible verse. I just think of how amazing that it is that they both have that Bible verse in their hearts and now "ST" is following in Granny's footsteps. I hear the excitement in her voice about sewing and it reminds of me of Granny's excitement about quilting.
