Country Living - What More Do We Need?

This tiller is just my size. It is actually not mine.
It is my Sweet SIL, Bryans. We borrowed it last year and
hope he forgets about it. Ha! I really love this little tiller!
Planting lots of cucumbers that my dad raised from seed.

My Pond. See the Gourds? When we first put these gourds up we had lots of Martins move in. Then one winter we moved the pole with the gourds on it closer to the pond. The Martins didn't come back for several years.

We were so excited to see these few move in. Martins are great birds for eating flying insects. They are great to listen to also.
Most of the time they will return to the same place every spring so we hope they are here to set up housekeeping this year.
Sorry about the fuzzy picture but I tried to get pictures of my fish eating.
You can see 1 blue gill up at the top if you look real close.

There are about 10-12 in this picture but you have to look really close. The blue gill are on bed right now. If you look real good you can see the holes they make for their beds.

My Sweet hubby called when he left for work and told me there was a turkey in the front yard. Did I run to see it? NO!! I ran to get my camera. By the time that I snapped the picture she was heading across the end of my driveway probably going back to her nest. We have saw her many times around here and usually when a hen is by herself at this time of year she has a nest nearby. I hope we see babies really soon.
I just love living out in the country! I love everything about it. I love the privacy. I love the quiet. I love having a little land. I love all of the surprise guests we have on our property.

I just finished catching up on all of the posting you did while I was in Kentucky. I loved seeing your Granny's sweet face again and sorry to read about your two daughters' surgeries. I hope both are well on their way to feeling all better again. Also I loved seeing all your beautiful flowers. Your love of gardening shows and today it inspired me to get outside and do some yard work here which I will if we don't have rain again today.

Thanks for stopping by for a visit...yes, a little under the weather but I shall be up and around real soon!
I have a real love for the country also...love the peace and quiet. Your pictures remind me of back home in Louisiana. We moved here about a year ago and are loving the mountains God put here for us.
Thanks for sharing the pictures of your family and home..loved the pictures of the barn. And we have a few more weeks before we can safely put things in the ground...but I can't wait!
Have a great day!

Those small tillers are wonderful. We have one that is perfect for the small beds as well as larger ones.

Country peace is the best. The sights and sounds of nature are just a small part of it.

I love all the birds at this time of the year. Our little wrens flew the nest this week and I so miss them. Your gourds look so wonderful for birdhouses. I wonder if we would get any birds if I hung some of those out here.

I hope that you have a nest of baby turkeys. How many little ones do they usually have? Make sure you grab the camera when you see them.

Valerie, I had no idea that you lived in such a perfect little spot! You even have your own pond...oh I'm sooo envious now:-) I would love to have a place like this, as I'm sure many others would also! lol Love the idea of the gourds, I never knew that they would attract certain birds like that, how fascinating!! xoxo

I just LOVE your pond! I have wanted to have one here for so long but with all the little neighbor kids running around here we don't dare to. Maybe some day. Yes, your turkey must be nesting close by. We have so enjoyed watching this mating season with all the toms all fluffed up strutting around trying to attract their mate. So pretty!

One of my neighbors has a pond and puts fish in it and the great blue herons come by and eat her fish! Do you have any trouble with that?!

Did you grow your gourds? I tried growing some last year and I guess I didn't get them in soon enough as they were still green by the time the frost was coming. Should I have planted them sooner?????

What wonderful reading this is. Hope your cucumbers are growing everyday. I love purple martins, our neighbor has the gourd birdhouses in his backyard. They are wonderful to keep the insects down in our yard. So beneficial. Country living at it's best. :)
