Grandma's Sewing Box

Meet my Grandma! This is my Mom's Mother, my grandmother. She was born on Feb. 14, 1896 and passed away December 18, 1993. She was 97 years old (almost 98) when she left us. I was very close to her and miss her all the time. I have had her on my mind a lot lately and today as I was cleaning out some things, I ran across her sewing box. I thought you would all enjoy seeing what I saw. Here are just a few of the things I found.
This sewing box is just like she left it.

Here is the tray inside. It has a little bit of everything.

I lifted the tray and this is what I saw.

This little book was in there. It is very old.
I tried to find a date but couldn't. On the back it says;
Useful Books for Little Folks
It is a tiny book. I might have to share the story one day with you.
The name of the book is James Stebbins
There is a note in this book that says it belonged to Bonnie which was Grandma's younger sister.
What a treasure
Needles, Razor blades, & buttons!
This is just a few of the many things that were in here.
This is the front page of the instructions for her State Bird quilt!
She embroidered each block. My Mom has the quilt. It is gorgeous!
Isn't this sweet? She had crocheted this but never finished it.

This is finished. I think it is a coaster.

I was intrigued with these keys.
All of them except one looks so old.
I wonder what they go to.

I have shared many things about my "Granny" with you. I have had Grandma on my mind a lot lately and thought I would start sharing some about her. She was an honorable woman and made a big impact on my life. Do you notice I have a Granny and had a Grandma! Everyone always knew who we were talking about. Granny, who is still living and a lot of you have adopted and love is my Daddys Mom. Grandma who is with the Lord is my Moms mom. They both are very special women in my life and in my heart. So now that you have met Grandma...you will be hearing more about her.
Proverbs 31:10-31
Who can find a virtuous Woman? for her price is far above rubies.

Ok, I am teary eyed looking at Mama's sewing box. She was so dear and I still miss her so much! She loved to crochet better than anything, but later in life her eyes were bad, and her hands were not strong enough to do it and she wanted to so much. She used to make some beautiful doilies and she crocheted around all her pillow cases.
Thanks for writing about her.
Love
MOM

More coincidences for us...my dad's mom was called Granny, my mom's mom was called Grandma. And I once owned a sewing box just like that one, same color too. I gave it to my son who makes reproduction civil war uniforms.
I miss both of my grandmothers too; one died in 1971 and the other in 1997.

That is an absolute treasure--if only the thread and needles could talk. How wonderful to share with us all.

You really have longevity in your family. My grandmother's were wonderful women, too. My paternal grandma lived to the age of 87--she passed away on my birthday. My maternal grandmother passed away at the age of 96. I learned so much from both of them. Thanks for reminding me of that as you talk about your granny and grandma. Great post. Julie

I can just feel your delight while going through the sewing box....don't you just get the feel of your grandmother when looking at these things knowing they were her treasures at one time and now they're yours. How very special.

How sweet of you to show us these treasures of Grandma's. True, there was no one more beautiful in spirit. I still feel her close to me also. I used to love just following her around the kitchen! Thanks for sharing these things that she has touched with her loving hands. I love you, Sis.

It was fun to "meet" your Grandma. It will be great to learn more about her as times goes on. I am sure she is looking down and smiling at you showing her sewing box.

I, too, was very close to my grandmas and it is amazzing what memories we are able to carry from them. My last grandma died a couple of years ago at 104!!!
