Say Hello To My Little Friend

Here I am in my house with my rubber ducky p.j.'s on minding my own business when I look out the window and see something scooting across the yard.
See all that ivy growing on the cross ties? He came out of there which means he was probably in my raised bed garden eating away! Can you see him?

The picture does not show how big my little friend really is!

Meet Grandpa! He looks so tired. He looks like he has had a rough day today.

His head went in as I got close to him. I wish you could have seen his head out.
His head was at least 8 inches long. Look at that fat on his leg. My hubby said he must be old so that is why I have named him Grandpa!

Where are you slowly going?

Oh I see! It took him forever to get here.

Wonder if Grandpa is a girl?

Don't eat my flowers please.

Why are you looking at me that way?
Can you see his eye looking right at me?
I think he was as scared of me as I was of him!
Then he buried himself under the pine straw and went to sleep I guess.
I went in and finished getting ready and came back out to check on him and he was gone!
I guess Grandpa was just passing by.

Great photos (and cute captions). Someone down the street found a huge turtle today, too.

OOOH, that's a Snapping Turtle. Strong jaws. Don't get too friendly he/she will nip your toe off. ;-)

I was going to tell you the same thing that "Parsley" did. That big guy IS a snapping turtle. (The shape of his head and long tail were the dead giveaway.) Mean and ornery, if bothered. You especially don't want little kids or pets anywhere around him. Please do be careful!

I agree probably just as well the "old man" went on his way...

Tour clematis flowers are so pretty...love the color.

May your weekend be filled with many blessings.

Great pictures but a little scary that you were so close. It's a good thing Grampy couldn't move too fast. He might have had toe for breakfast. He may just be hiding in another spot so watch any pets when they're outside. Snapping turtles can be really vicious when cornered.

He was a clean turtle, we havebig ols mug turtle cross our yard to go to other ponds and they feed on their way. Do be careful they are a snapping little creation! Like your PJ> Have a great day!

Yep that is a snapping turtle and most likely a female! Looking to lay her eggs. My son has one as a pet. (I don't remember dropping him as a baby) I have had the privilage of taking care of her several times. SCARES ME! Amazingly she is nice to him!

Wow, I think it's great to have a friendly turtle in your yard.
Hopefully, grandpa/grandma doesn't eat too much of your garden, but it's so pretty you can reist.

oops... I meant to say you CAN'T resist. :-)

Just catching up here, Val. Loved all the pictures of the grands and of the Hilton!!! I also enjoyed the nice tribute to Granny.

Grandpa looks like an interesting character. What sort of tortoise is it? If you can pick him/her up, you will be able to tell the sex. If the bottom of the shell (plastron) is concave it is a male. It will be flat if it is a female. Perhaps she is looking for a place to lay her eggs!!!

Well I loved the comment, "wonder if grandpa is a girl!" LOL! You are so cute! Love the toes (yours), not the turtle toes!

That's so cool! We get big snapping turtles sometimes, but not as often as sliders. I just love your blog!! :0)
