Friday Night Sew In: Learning Embroidery

I am so excited to be a part of this tonight.
It has been a while since I joined this group.
Thank you Heidi for hosting this event.
My project is learning embroidery.
I have been practicing the stitches so I thought I would try a project.
I actually started this yesterday but finished it tonight.
PLEASE DON'T LAUGH!

Are you wondering what this is?
Well when I started this project I was in a hotel room and
needed a light box to trace the design that I was going to try to stitch.

And I did it.  You just use what you have to sometimes.
I sure hope that this purple disappearing ink disappears!!!

So here I go.  I know it doesn't look too good but at least I am trying.
You are not laughing are you???

For my first project it is not looking as bad as I thought.
Boy that O in the word Love looks rough.

This whole project is only 2 stitches.
The stem stitch and french knots.

And here it is.  I wanted to have it in a frame but could not find one.
I will have to pick up one tomorrow.
I know that I made lots of mistakes but hey for the first time it is not too bad.
They say practice makes perfect. We will see!

Did I tell you that there is a great give away going on?
Head on over to:
Deb's Blog

This is my next project.  I found these tutorials over at Mary's Web Site!
She has great videos and this is where I am learning most of everything.
This sampler is suppose to let us learn a lot of stitches, and every letter in the alphabet.
I hope that I can do it.

I am getting pretty good at tracing things.

Now I have it traced on the white fabric.  Can you see it?

I wanted to share my first Dahlia with you.
Isn't it beautiful?
Mom gave me the bulbs.  I love it.
Would you remember my Mom in your prayers.
She is not feeling well tonight.
Thank you.

Thanks for popping in to my blog. I finished up my baby's quilt that was needing borders. I will post tomorrow about it. Your stitching is great, especially if that's your first time! Embroidery is stressful for me.

Hi I just popped over from FNSI.

Well done on trying something new! Learning all of the stitches can be really tricky - I've got about 4 or 5 that I feel I can do pretty ok now but it's practice and patience lol.

Your flower is so pretty :0)

What a great idea for a temporary light box. Where there's a will, there's a way, right? I think your embroidered piece looks great. Be sure to put your initials in the corner with the date as I'm sure your grandkids will be wanting everything you embroider.

Now how clever of a lightbox is that - it's all about being resourceful, girl! I think you did just great, Val, your French knots are miles ahead of my first ones - they all came unraveled! Good idea to frame it, and be sure to sign and date it. I usually use a pigma pen, they're fine-tip permanent markers you can get at any craft store. Possibly even office supply stores.

Your next project looks like a winner too, it will be excellent practice. I'm so glad you found a good place for videos.

Your dahlia is lovely, dahling. Your mum is in my prayers!

great job on the embroidery, no laughing here, the lamp in my sewing room has always been my best friend when I needed to trace something

I think you're doing a fantastic job with the embroidery...it looks like you have a lot of strands of floss in your needle, usually I only use two.
Hope your mother is feeling better.

Beautiful! I can't embroider; I love to learn but I don't know. . . My granddaughter, who is nine, tried teaching me to crochet. She said, "Nana, you're terrible!" So, there goes my confidence!! :-)

Love all the quilts! You have a beautiful blog and I'm sure I'll visit again!

Val, I really love all your blog posts. They always cheer me up if I am feeling low and brighten my day considerably. Thank you for sharing your life with others. I have to say, that Dahlia bloom is absolutely gorgeous! And I can see why you never want to leave the Hilton, because it is so peaceful and a slower pace to life and we crave that so much in our bodies and our souls, I think we don't even realize it! I wish I could come visit you there! :) I also wanted to say, your grand-children are all so beautiful! I can tell you are proud of them.
