Wanna Go On A Drive With Us?

It was the most beautiful day today.
Spring is in the air or at least I hope it is.

I had all of my Grands this afternoon and as we were driving to my house,
"Little D" went to sleep.  So we decided that we would ride around out in the country
hoping that he would get his nap out.

I asked my Grands if they would like to see the house that we built when
their mother was a little girl.  They were very excited to see it.
They asked me if I would want it back.  I told them it was way too big for us now.
I would love to have the 20 acres and the barn but a smaller house.

As we were riding around out in the country we saw so many pretty things.
"Sweet Teen" got my camera and snapped most of the pictures.

I love old houses, barns, old churches & covered bridges!

These horses were so friendly and the kids loved seeing them close up.

Looks like this tree was uprooted and they are trying to cut it up.
It was huge.

"Little D" woke up during our outing and got to enjoy the sights with us.

The Grands said that they never get to do anything like this.
I think that they enjoyed it as much as I did.
Sometimes it is good to just slow down.

Up close & Beautiful.

This horse was rolling around and scratching his back.
Angel & Brother loved this!

We were trying to figure out if someone lived in this old house or not.
Then we saw a satellite dish on it so we figured that they did.

It's funny how the Grands had so much fun just riding in the car
and listening to my stories.

You don't always have to spend a lot of money to make a memory.
You just need to take a little time.

We found this little log cabin in the woods.  When we came home and showed
Paw Paw (aka "Sweet Hunter") this picure he told us that they had moved that cabin in there
and that he had been inside of it before. We all thought that was pretty neat.

Snippets From My Heart
I love doing things with my Grands that will make them think.
I love telling them stories.  I love slowing down when I have them.
I love to let them do things that they don't normally get to do.
It may be simple things but when I see their eyes light up it is worth it all.
My Grands are so busy with school, ball, & church
and shopping, etc. that when they come to Gran's house,
I want them to remember walks, games, stories, making cookies,
and yes, even going for a drive
in the country. When I get them for a day, they don't ask to go to
malls, movies or out to eat.  They always ask to go to my house.
That means the world to me.
I want them to know how to slow down
and enjoy each other. They say the best gift that
you can give a child is time and that does not cost a penny.
I hope that we can help them make memories that will last forever.

Today I am thankful for..........making memories.

good morning Val, what a sweet day you had. I do the feel the same way as you and hope to times just like this with my grandchildren

the satellite dish on the little shed-shack-cabin is funny. I guess some people gotta have their tv.

we drove the next over small town yesterday to buy meat. the round bales of hay in front of the pawnshop made me laugh, I am sure in big towns you can't pawn your hay

It was a great day in your neighborhood! Thanks for sharing.
It reminded me of when I was little, after Sunday lunch we'd all pile into the station wagon and drive out in the country. If we were lucky we'd stop for a ice cold bottle of pepsi and a nickel package of peanuts.
We then headed to Grandma's house for a short visit. We'd return home for dinner, got bathed, and ready for Ponderosa.
Thanks for the memories!

What a wonderful time for you and the grandchildren! And Sweet Teen is becoming a great phographer! I enjoyed seeing the house you and Sweet Hunter built several years ago. But the best part was time spent with the grandchildren that will give them memories to carry with them all their lives. good job, Honey.

I am so with you on this! I love it when I have my grands and we just hang out and do simple things and they love it. One day we packed a picnic lunch and drove out in the Rhino and found a nice soft place to have lunch and enjoy the sun and sky. They loved it and we will do it again next summer. Love all the pictures that you and your g-daughter took. The horses took my eye especially the appaloosa, we LOVE appaloosas and miss having one right now but three is enough. Great post Val, I enjoyed it as always! xoxoxo

Thanks so much for taking me along on your drive. I'm getting so homesick for "back East." Today I had a little drive (to quilt group at church and back) and our winds were 30-50 mph. Your drive was nicer, so, thanks!
