Date Night At Home

Plans were suppose to be steaks on the grill, baked potatoes, & salad.
But LIFE happened and it ended up being hotdogs with slaw and cheese
and frozen french fries!!!!

We cuddled up on our couch together under a quilt and watched a movie.
Life is always so busy that we have to schedule time to be together.
We didn't even answer our phones!!!!
We want to do this more often.
Whether it is friendship or a marriage you have to nourish it.

I am usually doing my thing (computer or sewing)  and he is doing his thing
(watching hunting shows)!!!
But not tonight.....It was our date night at home!!!

We watched this movie and it was wonderful!
We both loved it.
I have to tell you that last week we actually went to the movies with several others
and we went to see a movie that we heard was great.
Well, it was terrible. The language was unreal.
We were all looking at each other but didn't know what to do.
After the movie and a lot of money spent, we all wished we had just walked out.
But we didn't know since we were with a group.
Nobody wanted  to make the others uncomfortable.
But we were all talking afterwards and we know now that if we ever
go to another movie like that we will walk out.
I will never forget when we were dating, "Sweet Hunter" took me to a movie
and the language was so bad that he stood up and said, "lets go."
I fell in love with him that night. I just thought that was so respectful.
I heard someone say, well you just have to look over the cursing.
I don't want to look over it.  I don't want to hear it.
I don't want it in me.

Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things.

Charlie and I try to have a date night now every week. Sometimes it is sitting at home and sometimes we actually go out.

I agree with you about the language in films today. It's overwhelming and the sexual innuendos get me too. I get so embarrassed especially if I'm watching something like that with someone other than just Charlie.

I know what you mean about movies. When I was dating my bf, I walked out of a movie, because I would not sit there and listen to it...or watch what they were implying. It was the original Mash movie. I was with my bf, his brother and sil. They thought I was silly, but I left it to the LORD. We have to do what we feel is our conscience before God!

Awesome! We are like you two. Once in awhile we will watch a movie on a Friday night, but I have to be able to stay awake!

Fireproof is an awesome movie. Is this the first time you have watched it? COURAGEOUS is the next movie from the same producers. It is a MUST SEE also. All of their movies are WONDERFUL!!!

You two lovebirds have a wonderful weekend!

Glad you had such a nice night at home! Too bad folks can't make movies without all the violence and sex. To me, that is a cover-up for the fact that they aren't talented enough to do otherwise......*sigh*

How sweet that you made time for each other! We watched "Seven Nights in Utopia" last night at home. It's another movie with no bad language and an inspirational message. Some of my other favorites are: A Night With the King (the story of Esther); Courageous; The Ultimate Gift;and Facing the Giants. Some movie theaters will return your money if you walk out and complain about the language. Isn't it amazing that Hollywood thinks we all talk like that and want our children and grandchildren growing up with those values? Take care, Val. I'm glad you're feeling well enough to write again.

What a sweet post Val - I'm with you - I can't overlook the language either. And when I read a book, no matter how good it may be, if they take the Lord's name in vain, I cross that book and that author off my list permanently and don't finish it. Love the scripture you chose to end with, that one has been on my mind a lot lately!

So glad you and hubby had a wonderful date night, your meal is making me hungry - it looks so good!!

Val,
I feel exactly as you do about the profanity in movies or tv. We have discovered a wonderful site that reviews movies from a Christian perspective, it is supported by Focus on the Family. I always check it out before we go.

I don't know which movie you went to see but if you check it out now I would be willing to bet that you would not have gone.

I would feel the same way too.

Seems like it is everywhere. When my DH was burnt in a horrible accident in 72 - he was sent to a bigger burn center. About a month into his treatments I was coming back into his room when I saw his curtain was pulled. I thought it would be his doctors-but I recognized the voice as belonging to a priest who had stopped. IF you had heard the language coming out of that young man's mouth - I think you would have been as SHOCKED as I was! It really made me heart-sick.
