I am so sad....No more tomato sandwiches! This is devastating. When I had my garden back in the summer, before the first frost, I wrapped all of my green tomatoes individually in newspaper and put them in a tote. I kept them on the screened in porch until it got so cold I was afraid they would freeze. Then I put them in the basement. We have eaten on these tomatoes all summer up until now. There is nothing like a fresh tomato. I am going to miss them. We ate the last one last night. I thought the tomatoes would stay fresh until Christmas, but they lasted until yesterday, Jan. 30! That is pretty good. So goodbye, fresh tomatoes. Parting is such sweet sorrow!!!

OK, you need to explain this wrapping green tomatoes in paper thing. I've never heard of that. What exactly do you have to do with them to get them to keep so long?
Hi Valerie, I just can't believe that you can keep tomatoes that long and not have them spoil...great trick!
And oh it looks so rich and red.
Licking my lips right now.
Hugs, Karen
Oh how sad! While everyone else is envying you that last tomato from your summer garden, you sadly enjoy your tomato sandwich! LOL! Very cute!
That's darn good Val. Just in time to get those new tomatoes sprouting!
You really need to explain how you did this! I had a bunch of green tomatoes that we never harvested - and to think, we could've been eating tomatoes all winter long - ARGH!
Kris
I have never wrapped green tomatoes- they actually get ripe and last that long? I will try this next summer. Thanks for the tip.
First time to visit your blog! I love it! This is just too COOL! I WILL have to try this. Hubby and I love tomato sandwiches. It would be great to have one in January.....
Hugs,
Shari
