Fun Weekend

We had some friends over this weekend for supper.
My Sweet hubby & Roger WERE on the same hunting club last year.
They had so many conversations about their hunting trips. They talked so much that we used to kid them about it. Then this year they were on different clubs and it was just not the same.
Delonda and I have been talking about how we miss them talking on the phone about their hunting experiences this year. When they talk about deer hunting now it is mostly about what is on the hunting shows on t.v. - Delonda & I have decided that we are gonna get us some camoflauge and show them how it is done! We said it had to be cool enough for snakes to be gone and warm enough that we didn't freeze! I don't think me and Delonda would make too good of deer hunters! We laughed and laughed and had so much fun kidding around with the guys.
This is the salad that we were suppose to have the night they came over but I didn't get it made in time. (Sorry guys!) It is a wonderful salad. This picture is actually from Maranda & Lanes rehearsal dinner and I have had several requests to share the recipe.
Layered Salad
Iceberg lettuce or other greens
Cheddar Cheese, olives, mushrooms, bell peppers, tomatoes, boiled eggs
and basically anything you love in a salad. Just put it in layers. The secret ingredient is frozen green peas. You have to have that. Then the dressing you put on top is a mixture of mayo, parmesan cheese, black pepper and a little tad of sugar. Mix and place on top of salad and put in refrigerator for 24 hours before eating. You can also top with cheddar cheese. It is delicious!
I made homemade bread on Saturday. I made several loaves. I sent one loaf home with Roger and Delonda.
Hot bread with butter...............Yum!
Here is the recipe for those who have requested it:
1 pkg. of yeast
2 cups of warm water
1 cup of sugar
1/2 cup butter, melted
1 1/2 tsp. salt
2 eggs beaten
7 or 8 cups of bread flour
Dissolve yeast in warm water. Add sugar, butter, salt, eggs & 4 cups of flour.
Stir until smooth. Add more flour to make a soft dough. Turn on to a floured surface and knead for 6 -8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, turning once to grease top. Let rise about an hour in a warm place until it has about doubled in size. Punch dough down and separate into 3 loaves. Put in greased loaf pans and cover and let rise another hour.
Bake 350 for 30-35 minutes
I have several recipes that I use but this is the one shown in the picture.

This is my table set and ready for the food to be put on the table.
Menu:
Salad
Spaghetti casserole

(You can find this recipe on My cooking blog that I used to do - Look in archives under Casseroles. I fix this dish a lot when I have company because it is easy to keep hot and ready)

Baked Potatoes
Homemade Bread

Buttermilk Pie made by Roger!
I forgot to ask him for the recipe but it was so delicious.
Maybe he will share it with us.
I think my sweet hubby has eat the whole thing!
We really enjoyed our friends coming over.

The next day after church we had some more friends that came over and ate lunch with us. We had a fun weekend. We are so blessed.

The boys look like they could be related. Sounds like you had a good time. What did she think of your sewing room?

Friends are the best gift God gives us!
be blessed,

Dinner looked wonderful Val, but I am sure it didn't begin to compare with the friendship you share. You are blessed.

Great idea! I'm making that salad. My husband will love it. My sister makes a similar version and it's awesome.

I love to bake but I have a horrible time with bread. I can't get the yeast/water temp right. What am I doing wrong?? I love homemade bread. I tried making my own buns last summer and after quite a few tries and it just wouldn't rise, I gave up.

I love those layered salads. And homemade bread. Well, there is a meal in itself. Yum!
I've not been to the grocery store since before New Years. I am just about to scrape bottom here. I will have to go before Honey Bear gets home this weekend. Otherwise, he won't have anything to eat, poor fellow.

I never made spaghetti casserole but would love to try it. Can you be more specific with the dressing for the salad? I'd like to try that, too.

Valerie,
Honey, you are such an inspiration to all that you touch. I read somewhere that IF you look for bad in life you will find it -and - IF you look for good you will find that too. I think we both know what you look for and find.
Thank you for sharing with your recipes also!
