A Sunday Afternoon

I made this quilt block today. It was so easy.
The first Saturday of every month my Sweet Mom & I go to our favorite quilt store.
We receive a block of the month. This was it.
At the end of the year you will be able to make a whole quilt with what you receive. This is what it would look like. When I first saw this quilt I was not crazy about it. I am not in to anything too modern looking but I thought the experience would be great. The owner showed us another quilt done in a totally different fabric and using one block only for the whole quilt and it looked like a different quilt. After that she showed us some more contemporary quilts that I didn't like at all until we watched a video on the "Gee's Bend Quiltmakers." Have you heard of them? I loved hearing the history of these quilts. I looked at the quilts in a different way after that video. They are amazing.
I moved my rocking chair over next to the fireplace. It is in the center of my dining room and sewing room. I am also working on the mantle. I found a checkerboard that my daddy made when he was in the navy and added some of my kerosene lamps. You will see me change things over and over but so far I am loving it.

My Sweet Mom & I both did our Jan. blockaboodle today.
This is a block that we can make and keep or we can bring it back to the quilt store and put it in a drawing and if you win you receive all the blocks.
I had too much fun making it to give it away!
All the quilt store gives you is one fabric and the instructions to make the block.
They gave us that middle fabric so I added the other colors.

I cut it all out following the instructions.

I love how it turned out.

Mom gave me this magazine and I LOVE it! I think I have memorized it.
There is one quilt in there that I LOVE!
Thank you Mom for "our day".

That is so much fun, my mom and I did that for a little while at the Hancock Fabric store. I still have 3 quilts to put together due to working 2 jobs for so long. I have to check out our quilt stores here to see if they are offering the block a month. The quilt will be very pretty in a unique way.

Hi Val---Love that block--what pretty colors you used--I am so glad that the Holidays are over and we can all go back to "normal"!!!!
When my mom was still here on earth we did some shopping together --but I was not into quilting then--just crafty things--she was my "official" stuffer--for all my dolls, geese, bears, etc--Miss her.
Hugs, Di&co.

My mom and I never shared any hobbies and she died more than 20 years ago. Treasure what you have with your mom!!!

I love that blockaboodle! I've been wanting to join a block of the month. I thought it would be good experience for me.

And how funny - I was reading that exact magazine last night. I love so many quilts in there too.

Oh Valerie I love your blockadoodle! It is so cute. How very special that you can do this with your Mom. Enjoy her while you can. Just like your little Granny.

I think it's wonderful that you get to quilt with your mum. I love the blocks you made, especially the second one - I'm so impressed!
I adore the Gee's Bend quilts. I'd love to see them in person.

Your block looks great, Val! I also love that you put your rocking chair by the fireplace. I know your room will keep changing until it is just 'perfect', and then if you are like me, it will continue to change.

Have a great week!
be blessed,
Michell

I LOVE the block you did - I think because of the colors.

Also sharing a day with your Mom and honoring the bond between the two of you is a gift. I am sure that the gift you two share inspires the both of you, and probably others along the way.

You did a great job on both of those blocks. I wish the quilt store here did something like that.
I am so proud of you for getting started again with your quilting. That is my plan but it may be next week before I get to it.

So nice that you and your Mom can sew together. My Mom used to put all the bindings on my quilts for me as that is my least favorite thing. Now she has lost most of her eyesight so can't sew any more and we miss doing that together!
