Thinking Of Granny & Friday Night Sew In

Remember back in February when Bobbi
sent this pin cushion to Granny? She also sent
me and my Mom
one too.

Well, guess who has it now? Me! My dad gave it to me along with this little wooden sewing machine that he had given Granny a long time ago. This means the world to me. I will treasure it forever. I took all 3 pin cushions to Granny and she picked this one! She was amazed that someone would make this for her. She got her horse (walker) and headed to get something. She came back with her 1 pin!!! I will never forget it!

I have not attempted to sew since Granny has left us. I missed the last "Friday Night Sew In" in April so I really wanted to join in with Bobbi and Heidi last night. My Mom
is out of town but we normally do the sew in together. We sew in our own homes but are connected through the computer. I sure did miss her last night! I could not think of what I wanted to work on so I decided some handwork might be just the thing. I am learning to crochet the basket weave. I think it is so pretty. I had tried it a while back and I love doing it. Next month I hope to be working on something in honor of Granny. Things are getting better. I smile instead of cry when I think of her. I have a lot of good memories. Thank you so much for this Friday Night Sew In. It really encourages me! I doubt that I would have worked on this project if it were not for Bobbi & Heidi! Thanks girls!

I'm glad you got that pincushion and the wooden sewing machine. And...you KNOW Granny will be up there "sassing" you before too much longer if you don't get back to sewing!!!

ONE PIN!!!???!!!
Now, I will have to go through my sewing stuff and get rid of some!!! If Granny didn't need all the 'trappings' then I don't either! :)

The crochet basketweave project looks great. I can't wait to see what it becomes.
It's good to know you're smiling.

Happy Birthday to Mother-in-law!
Oh and you'll love crocheting. I crochet and need to get back into it with different yarns and textures. It is fun:)

I'm glad you got Granny's pincushion Val. Love the little wooden sewing machine too - it's good to surround yourself with memories of Granny.

I love crocheting basket weave - I used to do a lot of Fisherman's crochet, cables, popcorns, etc. It looks spectacular but it's pretty easy. Yours looks great!

I really like that basket weave stitch. Someday I will learn to do things like that. I can straight stitch knit a scarf but that's as far as it goes.
Glad to hear you're getting back into the stitching mode whatever the form. Keep on keeping those memories of your Granny near and dear to you.

Val That basket weave is really pretty. I've been crocheting for over 50 years but have never tried the basket weave. I usually just do granny squares or ripple for afghans. I love that your dad gave you Granny's pin cushion and the little wooden sewing machine. I'm glad you can now smile when you think of Granny. She'd want you to think happy thoughts of her.

I enjoyed your Granny posts so much. both my grandmothers were women like your Granny, they lived to 95 and 99 and have both been in Heaven about 10 years.

I hope you can back to really enjoying your sewing, I think Granny would like that.

I'm glad the sew-in's give you that little nudge. It works for me too.

I love that little sewing machine.
The crochet pattern is beautiful. I'm not familiar with it but would love to learn.
Even as time passes, there will be times when you have a thought or remembrance and can't help but cry.

There is a song that Daddy loved. At his little church, sometimes they would sing it and you were invited to go to someone who was special to you and hug them. The song was 'I want to Stroll Over Heaven with you'. He led this song often in church when called upon. Well, a little while before he died but after Mother had gone home, I was spending the night with him. I had this song on my laptop sung by Alan Jackson. So I sat beside him, held his hand and sung along.
Now, whenever that song comes on and I start to sing, I can't help the tears that run down my face as it takes me back to that time. He went home in 2006. Someday I will stroll with him and Mama down those streets of gold.
Love you,
Mama Bear
