Crocheting Class

Through Facebook I have become aquainted with many old friends.
I found a friend that I used to go to church with and she saw that
I was interested in crocheting and told me that she teaches a
crochet class at the Senior Center here in my town!

Last week I went for the first time.
My BFF, Vicki met me there.
It last about 2 hours and there were many ladies there
crocheting many different things.

I didn't take pictures of the women because I didn't have permission
but I did ask if I could take pics of their projects.

I noticed that several had these little flower looking items.
I had no idea that they were chrysanthemum dish cloths!
And just as I was doing this post a sweet blogging sister
sent me this Link!
She had no idea that I was posting tonight about this!

Another Chrysanthemum dish cloth!

My friend Polly that teaches this class is such a good teacher.
Vicki and I know a little and we know our way.
Polly tried to teach us how to hold the hooks the right way
and our hands would just not do it!
It is so hard to teach old dogs new tricks!!!

This lady was making her grandson a little hat!
This is his favorite colors.

Look how cute!!!

And here she is making the tassel to go on top!

Here is a dish cloth that someone had just started!
Polly said that it would be ok to use any yarn but
she said that cotton would be the best.

This is what Vicki did in the class.
She had us make a chain and then a single crochet..
Isn't it pretty?

This is what I did.
I notice it getting wider as I go.
The teacher asked me if I would like to make a scarf
and I said "Yes!"
So everytime I rode in the car since last week, I crocheted.
I even crochet on the way to church!
I love it!

Then I decided that I wanted fringe on it so I went to You Tube
and found out how to do it.

I don't know how good I did this but I can't wait until
my teacher sees it this week when I go back to the class.
She gave us instructions on paper to take home with us
to learn more.

Putting on the fringe was easy.
Actually this whole scarf was easy.
I can tell that I got wider toward the other end.

So here is my finished scarf!
It may not be perfect but I love it!
Thank you Polly!
I had so much fun and can't wait until the next class.
This scarf will go in my "Christmas Through The Year" stash that I am working on with Allie!
It will also go in my OPAM folder at the top of the page as a finished project.
The hosts for the OPAM are Peg & Kris!

TODAY I AM THANKFUL FOR......
someone that would take the time to teach crochet to so many women!

Some pretty items there! I never did learn to crochet, being a southpaw, I never found the right teacher.

Good for you Val, I love to crochet - what great projects everyone is doing. Cotton yarn is my favorite, especially for dishcloths - I have several. If you want to keep your rows even, practice counting as you go across, to make sure you have the same number of stitches in each row - then you'll automatically see where the end of the row is after awhile. It took me some time too. Your scarf turned out beautifully girl, great job on the fringe too!

I've been crocheting since I was about 5 years old and love it. I always have at least one project going. I'm glad you're having fun and learning to make new things. The scarf looks great and I'm sure the lucky person who receives it will love it.

I would love to learn to make dishcloths. I guess I'd have to start with something since I don't know how to crochet or knit at all.

You're going to love that scarf this winter Val! And I know you love the dishcloths as much as I do. At my church there's a group that knits and crochets hats for cancer victims. They meet once a month and crochet some of the cutest ones I've every seen. blessings, marlene

What higher praise could I get than from a beginning student to do so well and to be willing to post her work. Thank you Valarie. It is just a joy to have you back in my life after all these years. I am so glad that I can teach you, and to see you learning so quickly. I have been crocheting about 70 years. What a great hobby. I will ask the students if they would mind you posting their picture with their projects. We have 22 people in the class.
Love you Girl.
