Today I Did This....

I read about a terrible tragedy on several blogs and wanted to join in
and help. If you would like to read about it click Here. I have missed
helping bloggers lately for good causes and wanted to start helping so
I thought I would try. I picked out my fabrics and started.

I haven't made any quilt blocks in a while but I did try.

The cutting went okay but it is time to
lay it out and put it
together.

So far, so good.

Still looking good.

But then I sewed it together.
Then I saw the points do not match.
Guess i will have to try again.
Any pointers?
My blogging friend Pat is going to send me a tutorial
to help me.
Thank you Pat!

And "Brother" got to see a real deer
 instead of 2 chickens & a possum!!!

TODAY I AM THANKFUL FOR.........doing something that we both love.

Congratulations to Sweet Hunter! I know he is happy. That will be a pretty block once you get it put together.

I think if you look at how to alternate pressing of the seams in each row (first row to the left....second to the right, etc.) and then put the pins the way it shows by each seam as the tutorials show, you will be fine. Once I learned that trick, my seams and points were much better. And I thank you for doing a block for this sad family. Have a good day!

Okay, it looks fine but I know you want the points to come together....there are lots of quilters out there with way more experience than me but I'll tell you what I do, what I was taught in class:
When you're pinning the pieces together, put the pin in the seam of both of them. Does that make sense? Maybe I should do a photo and show you. I'll see what I can do....but we all have this happen...I just confessed the other day to sewing two blocks together with: first one was sideways and then it was upside down..I had to take the stitching out twice. Such a waste of time.
Hope your hand is better.

Val, you ask for some pointers on matching the seams, here is a link where a lady shows some wonderful tutorials. I have watched alot of these and this particular one shows how to nest the seams together. This is exactly the way I have done mine for years. My mother taught me this trick years ago. Hope it helps you. Also, a very important tip to remember when making quilt blocks is, the 1/4 inch seam allowance. If you don't know if your machine foot is exactly 1/4 inch, let me know and I will show you how to do that.

Remember, if I can do it, you can do it.......

I'm going to be making star blocks too, and I'm so worried about my points! I'm not known for accuracy, lol. We'll just keep trying til we get it right, ok? And maybe we can make a mini-quilt with our less than stellar blocks. Congrats to Sweet Hunter on his deer!!
